Chapter 31
The phone rang, and Eric looked at the screen. It was a call from Nicole
“Eric, there’s an important meeting this morning, and it’s about to start. Where are you?”
He suddenly remembered. “I’m on my way. ”
Nicole walked toward him at the company as he exited the elevator
ric… Mr. Gomez, you’re finally here. Everyone’s been waiting for you in the meeting room,” she said hurriedly
Eric’s gaze landed on her eyes–they were beautiful and clear. But thinking that the cornea was supposed to belong to Abigail, an inexplicable feeling stirred within him.
“Mr. Gomez, what’s wrong? Why are you staring at me like that?” She felt a little embarrassed.
“Nothing.” he replied flatly, walking briskly toward the meeting room.
The test results came out, and Jacinta looked serious
The results weren’t optimistic.
She remained silent for a long time, and Abigail could already guess there was no hope for her eyes. Otherwise, how could she have gone blind?
“Ja, just tell me. You don’t have to hide it. I can handle it. No matter how bad the result is, I can accept it,” Abigail said.
Jacinta sighed. “It’s worse than I expected. You must find a come within a month and have the surgery, or your vision will be permanently lost. At least there’s still time. Let’s hope we can find a cornea within the next month.”
Η
Abigail remained silent. The last corea had taken nearly half a year to find–how could a new one be found so easily?
“Abby, don’t worry. I’ve asked all my colleagues to keep an eye out for you. They’ll notify me as soon as they hear anything,” Jacinta said, gripping her hand tightly.
Abigail smiled faintly. “Thanks, Jac.”
Jacinta didn’t know what else to say. “I’ll take you home now.
She had just stood up when the office door was pushed open.
“Dr. Bennett, the patient in Ward 3 is demanding to see you We can’t handle him; please gol” a nurse urgently called out
Jacinta winced. The parient in Ward 3 was notoriously difficult; it always took her at least half an hour to sort things out.
She glanced at Abigail, loolding troubled, but Abigail said, “Go ahead. It’s fine. I’ll just wait bere”
“Okay. Wait for me. I’ll be back soon
With that, Jacinta hurried out with the nurse.
Ahigall had just gone blind and was uneasy about returning alone, but she didn’t want to worry anyone
She sat quietly, her hearing had become much more sensitive since Insing sight. She could now hear subtle sounds she had never noticed before.
She heard footsteps approaching, slow and steady, with a bit of weight to them. The stops stopped right outside her office door.
“Ms. Reed, Dr. Bennett has finished her work, but she’s now on the other side of the building. She asked me to take you there.”
It was a woman’s voice–probably one of the nurses Jacinta had sent to relay the message.
But hadn’t Jacinta asked her to wait here? Why did she suddenly ask Abigail to go somewhere else?
Abigail didn’t think too much about it. She stood up carefully. Sorry for the trouble.”
“No trouble at all,” the nurse replied. “You’re having difficulty walking. Should I help you?”
“No, it’s fine.” Abigail shook her head. “Just let me know if there are any obstacles ahead.”
But then the nurse suddenly took her hand. “Let me help you. It’ll be quicker this way.”
Abigall found it strange. Why the rush?
But thinking she might be trying to avoid making Jacinta wait too long. Abigail didn’t say anything *
She wasn’t sure how long they walked, but she felt like she had gone from a bustling area to a quieter one and even down a flight of stairs.
