Chapter 58
Chanse laughed. “If I weren’t sure, I wouldn’t have offered. Eric’s my son. No matter how aggressive he is, I have ways to deal with him.”
Putting aside the truth of his words, Abigail said, “I want to get out of here, and I want to divorce Eric. Can you make that happen?”
Chanse pondered for a while, then he said, “Getting a divorce might be tough. After all, if he’s unwilling, there’s little I can do to force him. However, getting you out of here, that I can manage.”
Abigail’s hope was rekindled.
“Not only can I get you out of here, but I can also send you abroad to get your eyes treated. Given your current circumstances, it would be best to seek treatment abroad. I can arrange that for you.”
“Can you really?” Abigail was somewhat bewildered.
Chanse said, “Just think of it as a father’s way of expressing remorse for his son’s behavior. No need to feel burdened by it. As for the divorce, as long as you’ve lived apart for two years, you can file for divorce.”
Abigail couldn’t believe Chanse would be so willing to help her.
“How are your eyes now?” he suddenly asked.
Abigail told him the truth. “I’ve lost my vision. Sometimes I have a stinging pain in my head. The doctor advised me to undergo cornea surgery as soon as possible.”
“Then you should take the doctor’s advice. For the sake of your eyes, I would suggest that you accept my offer.”
Chanse took out a bottle of pills from his pocket.
Abigail heard the pills tumbling around in the bottle.
“This is for you.” He placed the bottle in her palm.
Abigail touched it. “This is… a drug?”
“That’s right. It’s a drug that can relieve the pain in your eyes. It’s a new medication developed by my company. You can try it out.”
“Thank you.” Abigail nodded.
Eric strode into the foyer. “Where’s my father?”
Peter replied hurriedly, “He’s upstairs. He told me that he wanted to speak with Mrs. Gomez in private, then he closed the door. I couldn’t stop him…”
Eric darted upstairs. As soon as he reached Abigail’s door, it opened, and Chanse walked out.
Chanse was a little surprised to see him. “Why are you back at this time?”
Peering in, Eric saw Abigail sitting on the bed, wearing her usual expression. He closed the door.
“What did you say to Abigail?” Eric’s brow was knit tightly.
Chanse smiled. “Why are you so tense? In any case, she’s my daughter–in–law. I heard that she’s lost her vision, so I came to check up on her. What’s the problem with that?”
“It’s not like you to be so kind.” Eric’s voice turned cold.
“Is that the proper attitude to have when you’re speaking to your father?” Chanse appeared impassive. “It seems to me that all the studying you’ve done has been for nothing.”
Disregarding his taunts, Eric said coldly, “From now on, don’t come here unless it’s urgent. Regardless of her condition, Abigail’s still my wife. I’m not going to abandon her. Whatever happens between me and her is none of your concern.”
He was certain Lucy had sent Chanse over as her mouthpiece.
“Of course. You’re an adult now. I don’t want to meddle in your affairs either.” Chanse went down the stairs, looking indifferent.
The furrow in Eric’s brow deepened.
He opened the door to Abigail’s room and went in.
“What did my father say to you?”
Abigail froze momentarily before saying, calmly, “He didn’t say much. He simply asked about my eyes.”
“That’s it?” Eric was unconvinced.
“What else did you expect?” Abigail frowned.
