Chapter 59
“If you don’t believe me, that’s fine. But you can’t even believe your own father?” Abigail jeered. “What else do you think he’d have told me?”
Chanse had rarely interacted with her.
After hearing her words, Eric thought that perhaps he was just being paranoid.
“Don’t believe whatever my parents told you. Just ignore them,” he said abruptly.
Abigail was silent. After a while, she finally spoke. “I want to go to the hospital tomorrow for a check–up.”
Thinking that she wasn’t feeling well, Eric asked immediately, “Do you feel unwell? I’ll take you there right now-”
“No need for that.” Abigail shook her head and said calmly, “I’m tired and don’t feel like going out. I can go tomorrow. I just want to know the state of my health and eyes.”
Eric assumed she was worried about her eyes. “Don’t worry. Your eyes will heal.”
Abigail was expressionless and silent.
He couldn’t understand her fear and panic. He couldn’t understand her pain, either. He had no idea that every second she spent here was torment for her.
It was absolutely torturous.
Eric said, “Alright. I’ll go with you tomorrow.”
The next day, Eric had someone notify the hospital in advance. Once he and Abigail arrived, they entered the examination room right away.
The entire examination took only half an hour. After that, they waited for the results.
“Compared to the last time, the situation hasn’t changed for the worse. All in all, that’s good news,” said the doctor.
Abigail spoke. “Doctor, I’d like to ask you some questions alone, if that’s alright.”
The doctor froze and glanced at Eric unconsciously. “That’s…”
“What questions can’t you ask in front of me?” Eric scowled.
Abigail said, “If I could ask them in front of you, I wouldn’t have said ‘alone.‘ If you won’t allow it, fine.”
Looking stoic, she got to her feet, ready to leave.
Her attitude made Eric frown. Nevertheless, he eventually gave in. “Alright. Speak with the doctor alone. I’ll step outside.”
As soon as the door closed, Abigail said in a lowered voice, “Doctor, I have to ask you for a favor.”
The doctor looked at her in confusion.
Eric stood in the hallway, his brow tightly knit and his face sullen. He was frustrated and displeased.
What questions did she have that he needed to step outside for? She even wanted to keep them from him entirely.
After an unknown period of time had passed, just when he was about to kick down the door and barge inside, the door finally opened.. Abigail felt her way around as she walked out.
Every time Eric met her vacant eyes, he was overcome with an inexplicable feeling. He felt as if an invisible hand was squeezing his heart.
He stepped forward to hold her hand and asked, “Did you ask all your questions?”
Abigail nodded. “Yes.”
“Then let’s head back,” Eric said.
He took Abigail home before heading back to the company,
The next day, Abigail requested another visit to the hospital, stating that she was unwell.
At that time, Eric was in a meeting and couldn’t take Abigail there. So, he had to ask Peter to bring her over for a check–up. He also told Peter repeatedly to keep an eye on Abigail.
Peter took Abigail back to the same private hospital. This time, she didn’t even get a check–up. She sought out the doctor she had visited last time.
After being shooed out of the examination room, Peter stood in the hallway.
In the room, Jacinta hugged Abigail excitedly.
