Chapter 84
After finding out that Lenny was Abigail’s attending doctor, Ryan repeatedly asked him about her condition.
Ryan was glad that he had come for her operation this time. Otherwise, he couldn’t even imagine the mess that would’ve happened. With that thought in mind, he figured Eric was as unreliable as he had expected.
“Enough. Since the person you like is fine, you should leave now. Otherwise, another storm is going to happen if Eric sees you,” said Lenny.
Ryan frowned deeply. “I would like to take a look at her. Is there anything, you can do about it?”
“No.” Lenny shrugged. “You saw how there were bodyguards, right? How am I supposed to bring you inside? However, I will tell her about what happened when she wakes up. I’ll also call you when I get the chance so that you can talk to her. Is that enough for you?”
Ryan finally nodded. “Alright. Then, I shall take my leave now. Please take care of Abby.”
“Don’t worry,” Lenny said with a smile.
When Abigail woke up, her world was still pitch black. The anesthetic had worn off, and her eyes were hurting a little. Her limbs were still a little stiff, and it was so quiet around her that it was unsettling.
She couldn’t see or hear anything, and it felt as if the whole world had abandoned her. She couldn’t even describe how upset she felt at that moment.
Abigail slowly sat up with her hands pushing on the bed. Suddenly, she heard someone opening the door and approaching her.
“Oh, you’re awake!” Upon hearing the familiar voice, she recognized it was Lenny right away.
“Dr. Sullivan?” she asked in her hoarse voice.
“Yeah, it’s me,” answered Lenny. He walked to the side of her bed and checked the IV bag. “How do you feel now? Are your eyes still in pain?”
“A little.”
“Did you know something almost went terribly wrong during your operation this time?” he suddenly said.
Abigail shook her head. “No. What happened to me?”
“You’re allergic to one of the medications, but it wasn’t stated in your records. You were losing a lot of blood, and we needed someone to sign the papers to take emergency measures. However, Eric suddenly left halfway through the procedure.”
When she heard that, she instinctively clenched the blanket. She remembered how he comforted her before she went into the operation room and said he would be waiting outside the whole time. However, he had already left before her operation was even over.
“In the end, Ryan was the one who signed the papers, and the operation was able to continue smoothly because of him,” said Lenny.
“Ryan?” Abigail was surprised. “Why was he here?”
“I told him about your operation. You still don’t know that we’re good friends, right? I met him when I was abroad, and he has been worried about you. He has actually asked me about you all this while.”
She suddenly felt warm inside as she never would’ve thought that Ryan had been silently caring for her the whole time.
“Where is he now?”
“He left because the bodyguards wouldn’t let him come in. If you wish to speak with him, I can call him right now. Would you like that?” Lenny asked.
Abigail nodded. “Sure. Please call him right now.”
He took out his phone and called Ryan. When the call was connected, Lenny handed her the phone.
“Abby?” Ryan asked from the other side of the call.
Abigail answered with a hum, “Dr. Sullivan told me about what happened. Thank you, Ryan. If it weren’t for you, I don’t know what would’ve happened to
me.”
“You’re exaggerating. Even if no one was there to sign the papers, the doctor would still continue with the operation. That’s their job,” he said gently.” Now, stop overthinking it and rest well.”
