Chapter 87
Abigail wanted to investigate her father’s matters, she would have to stay with Eric and the Gomez family. It would certainly make everything easier. Once they were separated, she was worried that she wouldn’t be able to get close to the Gomezes anymore.
“I’I think about it,” she said helplessly.
Jacinta frowned. “I know you want to look into your father’s matters, but that doesn’t mean you should sacrifice your happiness. If your marriage with Eric continues, it’ll only hurt you more.”
“I can’t be hurt anymore.” Abigail said calmly, “Now, I know for certain that he doesn’t love me, and I’ve already given up on him too. Nothing he does now can hurt me anymore.”
She wouldn’t feel sad because of him anymore, so there was no way he could cause her any pain.
“There’s something I haven’t told you yet. When I was on my way back previously, I was taken away by Chanse.”
“You were taken?” Jacinta was shocked. “Where did he bring you?”
“He said he wanted to send me abroad, but I’m not sure. He was acting impulsively back then, and I could tell that he was in a hurry to send me away. He was also afraid of Eric looking for me. You should know that Chanse can’t do much to me here. But once I’m abroad, he’ll be able to squash me like a bug.”
“Are you saying that Chanse is trying to kill you?” Jacinta was even more shocked at that moment.
“Yes, I think that was what he was trying to do. Otherwise, why would he want to send me away that anxiously? He really didn’t want me to stay in the country. With that thought in mind, I think he has something to do with what happened to my dad.”
Jacinta fell silent for a moment before saying, “But even so…”
“Jac.” Abigail sighed. “What happened to my dad has always bothered me. I can’t accept how his name has been tarnished for years, and I have to find out the truth.”
Seeing how determined she looked, Jacinta didn’t know what else to say anymore and sighed.
“Alright. Since you’ve already made up your mind, I’m not going to talk you out of it. Just take care of yourself. If Chanse really is the man you say he is and failed to get you abroad, then he’ll definitely target you again in the future.”
After pausing for a moment, she asked Abigail, “Is Eric a part of this?”
The latter shook her head. “I don’t know. But from what I can tell, he doesn’t seem to be working with Chanse. After all, they aren’t really that close.” Jacinta scoffed. “That might be only an act. To people like them, family isn’t that important at all. The only thing they care about is benefits.” “You’re right. I’ll keep my guard up.”
Jacinta didn’t want to stay in the ward for too long because she was worried about raising suspicion. So, after she gave Abigail some reminders, she left the ward and promised she would visit again.
Nancy came to the ward in the afternoon with some soup. Just as she was about to feed Abigail, Eric entered the room. Nancy glanced at Abigail before saying, “Well, alright.”
Then, she passed the bowl to Eric before glancing at Abigail again. “Mrs. Gomez, Mr. Gomez Senior said he would visit you tomorrow. He hasn’t been able to come these past couple of days because he has been feeling unwell.”
“What happened to Grandpa?” Abigail immediately asked worriedly after hearing what Nancy had said.
Nancy said with a smile, “Don’t worry about it. He’s just feeling a little under the weather. That’s all.” Abigail was finally able to relax when she heard that.
After that, Nancy left the ward and closed the door behind her. Then, Eric sat next to the bed and brought a spoonful of food to Abigail’s mouth. Abigail pursed her lips tightly for a long while before finally eating it.
When she thought about how she had to investigate her father’s matters, she figured she had to maintain her relationship with Eric. After all, she just had to put on an act, and it seemed easy enough for her.
Seeing how she was finally eating obediently, Eric’s gaze and actions turned gentle.
After eating half of the food, Abigail said, “I’m done eating.”
“Are you sure? You only had a little food.” Eric frowned. “How are you supposed to recover soon if you’re not going to eat more? Here. Have a little more.”
