Chapter 100
1/7
After Nicole left the office without a choice, Eric called Abigail.
At that moment, Abigail was being pulled around by her colleagues as they passionately showed her around her employee’s cafeteria. The cafeteria at Gomez Group was big, and there was a wide variety of food there. With the company’s subsidy, the price of the food was affordable as well.
“What would you like to eat? You can get almost any kind of food here,” said one of Abigail’s colleagues.
“Let me take another look,” Abigail said with a faint smile, not used to her co–workers‘ enthusiasm yet. She figured they were only trying to get close to her because they thought she had connections that allowed her to enter the company easily.
While Abigail was thinking about what she should get for lunch, her phone started ringing. Eric was calling her.
“Please excuse me. I need to take this.” She smiled apologetically at the other two people and went to the side to answer the call.
“Where are you?” Eric sounded upset. “I didn’t even see you once this morning!”
He thought she wanted to work at the company because she wanted to keep her eyes on him. He figured she insisted on coming because she minded Nicole being there as well. In the end, Abigail didn’t even show up in his office once.
“Do you need me for something, Mr. Gomez?” Abigail asked calmly. “Even if you do, I can’t do much about it. After all, I’ve just joined the company and don’t know much yet. You should be contacting Ms. Hopkins instead.”
Suddenly, Eric said, “Do you mind Ms. Hopkins that much?”
“That’s not it,” she said. “Is there anything else? If not, I’ll be getting back to my lunch now.”
Hearing how cold she was, Eric was infuriated. After all, he took the initiative to call her, but she didn’t care about it at all. So, he just ended the call right away and wanted to see how long she could keep it up.
When Abigail noticed that the call had ended, she didn’t care at all. After she got herself some food, she joined her colleagues for lunch.
She was friendly and humble when she hung out with her co–workers, and they were also friendly toward her. At the very least, everyone was getting along on the surface.
When Abigail returned to her office, she continued looking into her work. During the afternoon, she saw how Nicole kept entering the president’s office, and all the other secretaries were being respectful toward Nicole as well. From what Abigail could tell, Nicole was most likely the head of the secretaries. Since Nicole was still young, it proved how capable she was to be able to become the head of the department. When she assigned tasks to the other secretaries, she would glance at Abigail from time to time to show off a little.
However, Abigail just looked as calm as ever while focusing on her work. She wasn’t affected by Nicole’s actions at all and didn’t even enter Eric’s office once. Because of that, Nicole started feeling confused.
At first, Nicole thought Abigail joined the company out of anxiety to give her a warning. However, from what Nicole could tell at that moment, Abigail didn’t look anxious at all. So, she wondered if the latter was playing hard to get.
With that thought in mind, Nicole purposely said to one of the other secretaries, “I need to attend a party with Mr. Gomez tonight, so I’ll leave these to you. I’ll be checking everything tomorrow morning.”
The secretary hurriedly said, “Alright, Ms. Hopkins! I promise I’ll finish the task!”
Nicole pretended to accidentally meet Abigail’s eyes, and Abigail suddenly stood up. Seeing that, Nicole thought the latter was finally reacting to her actions.
Abigail packed up everything on her desk and picked up her bag to leave.
“Hold on! Where are you going?”
