Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Levi found himself standing outside, having been promptly kicked out by Isabella. For all his power and influence int Cridonia, where his word was law, Levi was still just the unwed grandson who could never give his family peace of mind in Isabella’s eyes.
Jack, his assistant, raised an eyebrow, asking cautiously, “Mr. Gordon, are you really going to marry
Ms. Miller
Levi rubbed his temples, clearly worn out. “My grandmother hasn’t been well. If my marriage will ease her worries, then so be it, he sighed.
In his mind, he thought, Marriage doesn’t mean I truly accept her as my wife. If she dares to step out of line, I’ve got a hundred ways to send her packing with nothing but the clothes on her back”
Meanwhile, Zoey lay on the hospital bed, listening to the doctors he explained her condition.
“Ms. Miller, your eyesight can be restored with surgery, the doctor explained. “But the operation requires an overseas. specialist, and the cost is extremely high, at least several million dollars.”
Zoey’s heart sank deeper at the doctor’s words. Still, she managed a polite smile, her lips curving in quiet acceptance. Thank you. Doctor. I understand.”
Millions of dollars… she thought, her mind racing. I’d have to work my whole life to earn that kind of money. There’s no way I can get so much money!
That was why she had planned to sneak out of the hospital. She didn’t want to burden Isabella with such a massive expense.
Not long after the doctor left, Levi walked in, his expression cold as ever. “Who gave you permission to leave the hospital?” he demanded.
Zoey lowered her head, her voice barely a whisper. “I’m sorry. I st… I don’t want the treatment anymore.”
“Why not?” Levi’s tone was sharp, not understanding her hesitation.
of money,” she stammered.
“The doctor said the surgery costs millions. I don’t have that kind of
Levi, ever commanding, responded without missing a beat, “Didn’t I already tell you? I’ll cover all your medical expenses.”
He didn’t even flinch. For the Gordon family, that amount was barely pocket change.
Zoey clutched the bed sheets nervously. “But it’s so much money Even if I sold myself, I could never repay you
Levi’s lips curved into a cold, teasing smile. “Well, that depends on who you sell yourself to.”
Zoey blinked and raised her head, confused. “What do you mean
As Levi leaned in slightly, his eyes gleamed with a hint of amusement. “Sell yourself to me. Marry me, and as my wife, it’s only right that I pay for your surgery.”
Her heart wavered at his words. Zoey wasn’t someone who chase wealth, and the idea of marrying into a powerful family didn’t exactly excite her. But the chance to regain her sight was something no one would easily pass up.

Chapter 4
She desperately wanted to see again, to return to university, to reclaim the life she’d lost.
After a long pause, Zoey nodded, her decision made. “Okay. I’ll marry you.”
Levi didn’t skip a beat. “Perfect. I’ve got some time this afternoon Let’s go to city hall and get the paperwork done.”
“Wait, what? Today?” Zoey gasped, her nerves spiking as she bit down on her lip.
Most women would be over the moon at the thought of marrying into the prestigious Gordon family, but not Zoey. Instead of excitement, all she felt was a deep sense of worry. Her anxious expression reminded Levi of a startled deer caught in the headlights–timid yet impossibly endearing.
His lips twitched upward in a rare smile. He even started to think that perhaps this marriage wouldn’t be so bad after all. At least with her, there was none of the scheming or hidden motives he was so used to.
Zoey wore her heart on her sleeve, a trait so refreshingly pure that it almost seemed unbelievable.
Levi had spent his entire life surrounded by people who smiled to his face and stabbed him in the back. Zoey was different. Or at least, she seemed to be. In his world, trust was a rare luxury and sincerity even rarer.
But as he looked at Zoey, with her innocent eyes and an almost childlike naivety, he found himself unsettled.
‘How can someone be this pure? he wondered, a flicker of doubt crossing his mind. He hoped she wasn’t just putting on an
act.
To ensure Zoey’s comfort, Levi had already arranged for a personal caregiver to look after her while in hospital. The carer had just helped Zoey change into a pristine white dress, which made her look even more delicate, like a perfect white rose in full bloom
For a moment, Levi found himself taken aback, momentarily lost in the sight of her. But he quickly regained his composure, his expression returning to its usual cold detachme “Let’s go,” he said flatly, gesturing toward the door.
The car pulled up smoothly in front of the city hall, its polished black frame gleaming under the midday sun. The imposing structure loomed ahead, a symbol of countless life–altering morrents for many,
Levi stepped out first, his tailored suit fitting him like a second skin, exuding an air of authority. His hand reached back, helping Zoey out of the car with a firm, almost possessive grip. Though her world was veiled in darkness, she could sense the weight of this moment.
Inside, the atmosphere was brisk and official. Yet when the couple approached the desk, the clerk’s eyes widened, and she couldn’t help but gush, “You two look like you stepped straight out of a movie. I mean, really, what a pair. Could I have the lady open her eyes for the photo comparison, please?”
Zoey hesitated, her heart skipping a beat before she slowly opened her eyes.
The process moved along swiftly, and soon, Zoey and Levi walked out with a freshly minted marriage license
When she opened her eyes for the verification, Levi was captivated by her beauty. It was the first time he had seen her open. They were as stunning as ever, even if they seemed dulled by her condition–large, innocent, and framed by long lashes, though clouded, like precious gemstones buried beneath Layers of dust.

He knew that if her sight was restored, she’d be noticed far too easily and would draw countless admirers, and that idea. left him unsettled.
Zoey couldn’t believe how fast her life had changed and now she was a married woman. She didn’t know much about the

man she had just tied her fate to–what he looked like, his family background. But she figured if his grandmother Isabella was any reflection of his character, he couldn’t be that bad.
At the very least, they were willing to help her regain her sight, something most people would have walked away from the moment they heard the cost.
She took a deep breath, forcing herself to accept the reality of her sudden marriage.
“I’ve got business to attend to at the company, Levi said, his tone businesslike and cool. Tll have my assistant Jack take you back to the hospital.”
Zoey nodded quietly. “Alright”
Levi’s gaze lingered on her for a second longer than necessary, mentally noting her composed demeanor. He had worried. she might become clingy, disrupting his life and work. But so far she seemed sensible, knowing when to step back.
That was a relief to him. Levi had no patience for needy women; his mind was consumed with market trends and corporate deals, leaving little room for anything else.
As Jack drove Zoey back to the hospital, he couldn’t help but glance at her from the rearview mirror. She sat there, quiet and poised, with a soft, innocent charm. He was curious and asked, “So, you just started college this year? You look pretty young.”
Zoey smiled gently, her voice polite yet tinged with a touch of sadness. “Yes, I started late, so I’m starting my freshman year
now.
Despite her excellent grades, her parents had other plans. They wanted her to stay home and take care of Brittany, event attempting to withdraw her from school twice.
Zoey was kind–hearted but not naive. Growing up in such a household, she knew that without education, her future would be bleak. So, no matter how difficult, she fought tooth and nail to return to school.
Though she had lost two years, she was finally on the path to attending her dream university. Once her eyesight was restored, she would be back in the classroom where she belonged
Zoey turned to Jack, her voice shy but resolute. “Could you tell Mr. Horton that once my eyes are healed, I’ll agree to a divorce? I won’t cling to him or cause any trouble.”
Jack raised an eyebrow in confusion. “Mr. Horton“”
Zoey, with her innocent air, replied, “That’s his name, isn’t it? Lei Horton?”
She had mistakenly thought his last name was Horton when he introduced himself, a small slip that made her all the more endearing
Jack chuckled sofily, “Never mind, Ms. Miller.
He thought to himself, A girl like her who’s so blissfully innocent and pure can’t be a schemer plotting against Mrs. Gordon.. This must all be one big misunderstanding.
Just before they pulled up to the hospital, Zoey’s phone erupted with a loud ringtone that startled them both. She fumbled through her bag, blushing as she pulled out her phone. “Sorry about that. This old phone doesn’t let me adjust the volume,” she explained hurriedly.
It was a hand–me–down–from Brittany, and clearly in its last stages of life, its screen cracked and the volume permanently stuck at an ear–splitting level. Each incoming call sounded like the chaos of a demolition site, echoing through the car.
