Chapter 9
Since Zoey still couldn’t see well, Zoey had Linda help her change into clean clothes. Though her vision was blurry, she could make out enough shapes to manage things like using the toilet and changing her samtary pad on her own
When Zoey stepped out of the bathroom, she saw Levi on the phone with his secretary.

“Mr. Gordon, we’ve found out who was behind it. The car that hit Mrs, Isabella Gordon was linked to the Cooper family’s adopted daughter, Jack said through the phone
A flash of cold and even murderous intent swept through Levi’s eyes, and he said curtly. “I see.”
Levi had never been one to show mercy. Anyone who offended him usually faced swift and brutal consequences. And for someone who targeted his family, he would never let them go caily
Levi had heard whispers about the Cooper family’s adopted daughter before. Years ago, the Cooper family had lost their biological daughter and pulled every string they could to find her even reaching out to the Gordon family for help. But in the end. she was never found.
Eventually, the Coopers adopted a girl and passed her off as their lost daughter, though only a few people knew the truth that this girl shared no blood ties with them.
When Levi finished his call. Zoey gently asked, “Mr. Horton, are you staying here tonight?”
Levis eyes flicked toward her, cold and sharp. That single glance sent a chill down Zoey’s spine, making her feel like she was suffocating. Without a word, Levi turned around and walked out of the apartment, leaving her standing there, confused and unsure of what she’d done wrong
Did I upset him somehow?‘ Zoey wondered, her heart heavy with worry. ‘Is it because I stained my dress earlier? Does he think I’m messy? But I’m usually very clean.
Sensing her distress. Linda tried to comfort her, “Don’t overthink it, Ms. Miller. I’m sure Mr. Gorden had some urgent work. to attend to, which is why he left so suddenly”
Zoey nodded, her voice soft. I won’t hold it against him.”
“Are you ready for bed? I can go run you a bath, Linda suggested
Later, Zoey lay in the unfamiliar bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. Everything that had happened over the past few days felt like a dream.
She thought back to her old life, sleeping on that small cramped bed piled high with junk. Now, she was lying in a soft bed. with enough space to stretch out comfortably without fear of falling off.
Now, instead of leftovers, she could eat whatever she liked until she was full, with plenty of meat on her plate. For the first time in a long time, her body felt strong, nourished, and full of energy.
In the past, every time Zoey got her period, she would be in so much pain, yet she still had to endure it while washing clothes and dishes in cold water for her family.
But recently, with better nutrition and care, her body had strengthened, and this time, thankfully, there was no period paint at all She silently gave thanks in her mind.
Once her eyesight fully recovered, she could return to school, finish her degree, and find a job. When she started earning

money, she could repay Levi.
He must have spent so much on my treatment and probably used up all his savings, Zoey thought, a wave of gratitude washing over her. She made a mental note to repay him, no matter how long it took
With these thoughts swirling in her mind, she drifted off to sleep In her dream, Zoey imagined what her husband looked like. He had a square face, thick lips, and a stern expression–not exactly handsome. She woke up laughing at herself for dreaming something so specific.
Even though I care about looks, if that’s what Mr. Horton looks like, I wouldn’t mind, she thought, her heart softening at the thought of him.
Meanwhile, Levi stood by the floor–to–ceiling window on the top floor of his building and made a phone call to his shareholders. “Pull our investment out of Cooper Group.
“Mr. Gordon, this is a critical point in the partnership. If we pull out now, Cooper Group might face a severe cash flow. problem. It could break them down. The voice on the other end warned.
Levi’s voice was as cold as ice. “Do 11. Anyone who dared hurt his family would face consequences far worse than just a financial blow. Even making them bankrupt wouldn’t be enough to avenge their attack on his grandmother.
“Yes, sir!” the shareholder answered, not daring to question Levi further.
News of the Gordon Group’s withdrawal shook the stock marketsending ripples of panic through the elite circles. Other powerful families watched in fear, wondering what the Coopers had done to provoke Levi’s wrath–and whatever it was, it had to be serious.
Desperate to fix the situation, Noah, the heir to the Cooper family, personally paid a visit to Isabella. Frazzled and anxious, he pleaded, “Mrs. Gordon, our family has worked with the Gordon family for years. We always follow the rules and stay respectful. Why did you suddenly pull the investment?”
Isabella lived in a grand, classical estate, and she was sipping coffee leisurely in her garden. She didn’t look the least bit concerned as she replied calmly. “I haven’t been involved in company matters for a long time. If you have questions, you’ll have to ask Levi.
Noah gave her a strained smile. We have no way to get in touch with Mr. Gordon directly. Is there any chance you could help us?”
They surely wanted to speak to Levi, but who would dare approach him so casually? Even the powerful Cooper family knew better than to directly confront someone like Levi, especially when the stakes were this high. One wrong move could make
things even worse.
“Mrs. Gordon, over the years, we’ve lost so many people and resources trying to find my sister. If it weren’t for your investment, we would’ve already fallen into the ranks of second–rate families.
“We’re deeply grateful for your kindness and support. We’ve never done anything to betray your interests, Noah spoke in a humble tone, a far cry from the pride usually associated with the heir of the Cooper family.
Without his sister, his parents had lost all focus on the business, leaving Noah to shoulder the burden alone. He was struggling to keep things afloat.
Isabella took a soft sigh. The Cooper family had always been known for their loyalty and integrity, and it seemed they were genuinely in a tough spot. With that in mind, she decided to offer a small hint. “While you’ve focused on finding your real sister, don’t forget to pay attention to the other sister at home”

Chapter 9
“The sister at home? Noah blinked, and then it clicked–she was referring to Ellie, their adopted sister.

Ellie had always been cunning. Noah had strongly opposed adopting her in the first place, but she bore a striking resemblance to their lost sister and had manipulated her way into his parents‘ hearts by mimicking his sister’s preferences. They eventually took her in as their daughter.
Noah had long suspected that Ellie wasn’t as innocent as she seemed, but he hadn’t anticipated that she’d bring this kind of trouble to their family. What a curse she’s turned out to be, Noah cursed in his mind.
“Hiding his frustration, Noah replied. Thank you for the reminder, Mrs. Gordon. I’ll look into the matter thoroughly.
He left behind an extravagant gift and exited the estate”
Isabella took a sip of her coffee, and suddenly, a thought struck her–Zoey and Noah look somehow alike. Thinking of Noah reminded her of his mother, Lilith Cooper. Zoey’s appearance was eerily similar to Lilith’s in her younger years.
Lilith had become more frail over the years, rarely showing herself in public, which was probably why Isabella hadn’t noticed the resemblance at first.
Concerned that she might be mistaken, Isabella called out to a servant. Find me some old photos of Lilith”
Yes, ma’am replied the maid..
Isabella chuckled softly to herself and murmured. “I really wonder how Zozo and Levi are getting along. Hopefully, this little girl hasn’t been scared off by that cold–hearted tyrant.”
