Soon, the family doctor came by to give Zoey a quick check–up. After scribbling down a prescription, he turned to Levi and said. “Mr. Gordon, no need to worry. Ms. Miller’s condition isn’t serious A. dose of this medicine should bring her fever down.”
Levi kept his tone neutral as usual and said, “Mm, I’ll have Jack notify the finance department about your bonus
The doctor waved it off with a smile. “Oh, thank you, sir. It’s nothing. No need for bonus.” He’d worked for the Gordon family for years and earned more than he could anywhere else beyond the high salary, he even got bonuses for house calls each time, which made him grateful.
Levi’s gaze remained cold as he replied, “You’ve been loyal to us, and that’s what you deserve.”
“Thank you sir” the doctor replied, sensing it was better to accept
After the doctor left. Levi considered calling Linda to take care of Zoey, but before he could make a move, he felt a rug on his shirt. Zoey, half asleep, clung to him and mumbled, “Mr. Horton, stay with me…
“Take your medicine, he said, grabbing a glass of water.
Zoey tried to sit up but barely had the strength. Seeing her struggle, Levi frowned, allowing her to lean against him. He pushed the pills into her mouth and held the glass to her lips. “Come on,” he said, his voice still indifferent.
She took a few small sips and then winced. 1. I can’t swallow it
“Open your mouth, Levi.commanded, his voice steady, but a little rough around the edges. She hesitated for a moment and felt the warmth of his breath on her face–gentle, but strangely settling. Her heart raced as she slowly opened her mouth, revealing the pills sitting on her tongue.
“How stupid. Levi muttered, his annoyance barely concealed Levi felt that Zoey was the kind of woman he hated- troublesome, fragile, and needy.
Hearing the irritation in his voice. Zoey looked down in depression and tried again to swallow. But without more water, the bitterness spread, making her scrunch up her face even more
“Here.” Levi repeated and pressed the glass firmly to her lips, forcing a large gulp of water into her mouth. His hand grasped. her chin and tipped her head back just enough.
Startled, Zoey swallowed hard, and the pill and water went down all at once. She touched her throat and murmured to herself, “Oh… so that’s how you take medicine…
Levi gave her a sideways glance and sneered, “No one ever taught you how to do that?”
She shook her head slightly, her voice barely above a whisper. “No… I never took any before. No one in her family even poured her a glass of water when she was sick, so she could only tough it out alone in her small bed No one ever told her how to swallow a pill properly.
Levi’s gaze flickered for a moment, and he didn’t call her stupid again. “Open your mouth,” he said again and fed her the remaining pills the same way.
Zoey’s chin turned red from where he had gripped it, and her son was marked with two bright red streaks from his fingers. Her lips, rosy and glistening with a hint of moisture, looked soft ud delicate.

Levi felt a dryness in his throat, and before he realized it, he had grabbed a glass of water and taken drink. Only after swallowing did it hit him–it was the glass Zoey had just used. His expression stiffened, and he set the glass down heavily on the nightstand.
“Mr. Horton, what’s wrong?” Zoey asked softly.
Levi cleared his throat and replied, his jaw tightening, “Nothing
Zoey hesitated for a moment before asking in a small voice, “Me. Horton, are you mad because I made a mess in your car the other day? If she hadn’t brought it up, Levi would have long forgotten about it
To him, it was no big deal–just clean the car or replace it entirely. It was hardly worth a second thought.
“Why do you think that? Levi asked, his tone even,
“Well… you haven’t come to see me for days, so I thought… maybe I did something wrong. Zoey mumbled, her voice uncertain. The more she thought about it, the more she convinced herself that it was probably because she’d been so sloppy and dirtied his car. That must be why he was angry.
Levi watched her closely, not missing a single flicker of emotion on her face. “I found out that someone was behind my grandmother’s car accident,” he said, shifting the conversation.
Zoey’s eyes widened in shock and she exclaimed, “What? Someone tried to kill her?”
“No” Levi replied, pressing his lips together. “They staged it to save her at the right moment, so she’d feel grateful,”
Zoey’s face flushed with anger. “That’s insane! Even if they want her gratitude, they can’t go that far. It’s way too dangerous. What if she had actually gotten hurt?”
Zoey was practically fuming, and her cheeks puffed in righteous indignation, as if she wanted to find that person and give them a piece of her mind right then and there.
Levi had dealt with countless people who were experts at hiding their true intentions, but no matter how hard he looked. there wasn’t the slightest hint of guilt or unease on Zoey’s face.
He couldn’t help but wonder, Is she truly innocent, or has she mastered the art of deception so well that even I can’t tell?
“Let’s call the police right away and get that person arrested. Someone with such awful intentions. Who knows what they might do next?” Zoey said, her voice full of concern.
“I already called. Levi responded calmly.
Zoey let out a breath of relief and said, “Good” No one wanted someone like that lurking around. Zoey thought calling the police and getting them locked up was definitely the safest option.
During the whole conversation, Zoey had no idea that Levi was testing her. Her simple mind couldn’t even begin to think in such complicated terms.
After taking her medicine, Zoey started feeling even hotter. She secretly slipped her feet out from under the blanket, hoping to cool down a bit. Just as Levi was about to leave, he noticed her little move. He sighed inwardly and shook his head in disbelief. “Put your feet back under the blanket, he ordered coolly.
He couldn’t help but grumble to himself, Jeez! Does she forget she’s on her period and sick on top of that? Does she have no. idea how to take care of herself?

“Got it.” Zocy obediently tucked her feet back in.
“And if I catch you sleeping on the couch again, you’re not staying here anymore, Lavi warned her. His tone was icy, not a hint of humor in it, and Zoey’s heart skipped a beat
She yanked the blanket all the way up, practically hiding under i “I won’t do it again, I swear”
With a satisfied smile playing on Levi’s lips, he replied, “Good”
He had planned to head back to the office, but just as he was about to leave, his phone rang
Having heard from the doctor that Zoey wasn’t feeling well, Isabella immediately called and asked, “What happened to Zozo? Is she okay? She just had eye surgery. You gotta make sure she doesn’t have any complications.”
Levi pinched the bridge of his nose and replied, “Don’t worry, Grundma. It’s just a cold and fever. She’ll be fine.”
Only then did Isabella relax and she added. “Are you at Noble Garden right now?”

“You better not. Just handle whatever you need to from there. Zoco’s always had a fragile constitution. Leaving her alone overnight doesn’t sit right with me. And don’t forget–she’s legally your wife now. You should at least make an effort to care for her, Isabella urged.
With Isabella putting it that way, there was no way he could refuse. It seemed like he would be staying at Noble Garden tonight. Taking a slight sigh. Levi replied, “I see.”
