Chapter 4
I didn’t reply and walked back to my apartment.
Antonio followed me in and his gaze landed on my suitcase by the door. “What do you want now? I told you that it was too early to get married. Why do you have to rush…”
I cut him off. “I’m getting out of town for my friend’s wedding.”
Antonio looked embarrassed. After a long pause, he
grumbled and looked at me. I was holding the contract I just signed. Noticing his gaze, I said calmly, “I sold some old stuff.
“Can I help you?”
Antonio was distracted by my question. His expression
softened and he complained, “It’s all your fault! You blocked Coleen’s number, making her think she had done wrong. She couldn’t sleep last night.
“She made dessert this morning and asked me to bring it over as her apology.”
Antonio put a cupcake on the table. It was covered in lime cream with mangoes on top. It didn’t look appetizing at all.
I looked at it and frowned. Antonio’s expression immediately turned gloomy. “Don’t you like it? You’re acting like you don’t like Coleen’s cooking.
“Grace, the whole thing is your fault. Coleen is being the
bigger person. You need to stop throwing your temper. Do

you have to make everyone embarrassed and unhappy?
I touched the mango with a fork and asked, “Antonio, don’t you know I’m allergic to mangoes?”
Antonio froze. When we first started dating, he remembered everything about me, let alone my allergies. As time went on, he gradually stopped caring.
I said, “I’m not angry because of what Coleen did. You can leave.”
“Unblock her then.”
I felt a little annoyed, but I didn’t want to fight with Antonio at the moment. It was a waste of time. So, I took out my phone and unblocked Coleen’s number while Antonio was watching.
As soon as I put down my phone, Coleen ran over from Antonio’s apartment.
Coleen looked at me, beaming, “Grace, I’m glad! You’ve forgiven me! Grace, I’m going to a party. Would you lend me the gown Antonio bought you?
“I don’t have a proper gown.”
I paused. Antonio gave me the gown this year on our fifth anniversary. It was the last present he gave me. At that time, he said he wanted me to wear the gown to meet his family.
I kept it in my closet carefully and never wore it out.
Antonio heard Coleen and said, “I agree. You’re not wearing it anyway. Lend it to Coleen.”
I sat on the couch, not moving. Antonio looked at me and
seemed to remember what he said when he gave the gown to me. He looked a little awkward. “It’s urgent for Coleen. She doesn’t have time to find a proper gown. Later, I…”
“Fine.” I got up and gave Antonio the gown without pause. I’d kept it pristine. There wasn’t a trace of dust even on its box.
Antonio grew nervous as I didn’t hesitate to hand over the gown. He asked tentatively, “Grace, are you angry?”
I answered calmly, “No. She can have it if she wants.”
I’d never wear this gown. Coleen liked it. Then she could have
- it.
Anyway, when Coleen wanted something, Antonio would make sure she had it.
Coleen thanked me delightfully and said she wanted to try it on right away. She walked into the bathroom. Soon, we heard her sobs followed by a scream.
Antonio jumped and asked, “Coleen? What’s…”
Coleen opened the bathroom door with the gown in her arm. She was also holding up a needle. There was blood on its tip. “Grace, even though you hate to lend me the gown, you don’t have to hide a needle in it.”
