Chapter 9
After doing all this, I felt great.
While Samson got swamped at the police station, I quickly packed up all my things at home and moved out.
Because I was guaranteed admission to MIT, the largest local real estate company rewarded me with 100,000 dollars in cash.
I spent 50,000 dollars to buy a condo that very day.
From now on, this place would be my home.
I never wanted to go back to the place I had lived in again.
It wasn’t until I left that I found that I had packed only one suitcase, and it was not even full.
Now that I had moved out, everything was easier.
No one would bother me anymore–by that, I meant Samson and Antonio, those scumbags.
I saved the rest of the money for my tuition and traveled around for a few days for relaxation.
After all, the years preparing for the SAT were exhausting.
After I came back, I went to the school and gave the head teacher my gift for him.
To my surprise, right after I stepped out of his office, Samson

cornered me.

If I had not known him so well, I would hardly have recognized him.
He had lost a lot of weight and looked much more haggard.
His beard was unkempt, and his eyes were bloodshot.
Before I could make a sound, he pulled me into the utility room next door.
Grabbing me by the collar, he asked, his voice stern.
“Grace, where have you been these days? I’ve been worried sick.”
Rolling my eyes, I said impatiently, “Really?
“Are you sure you aren’t trying to find me so you can get Vivian off the hook?”
He was slightly stunned and then said, his voice a bit hoarse.
“How could you say this? Grace, I’m your brother. We’re related by blood. I’m worried about you; that’s why I’ve been looking for you.”
I sighed, “Is that so?
“Well then, I’m right here, safe and sound. Now I can go, right?”
With that, I broke away from his arm and was about to leave, but he pulled me back.
Noticing the hesitation on his face, I leaned back.

“Tell me then. What do you need me to do?”
After much hesitation, he said, “Grace, I wanna tell you. something.

“You may not know this, but… Vivian is my mentor’s daughter
“I promised my mentor I’d take care of her. Now that she’s been reviled by everyone, she even threatens to kill herself every day. Grace, could you please help her?”
I arched an eyebrow. “How?”
He thought I agreed, and his eyes instantly lit up.
“Tell them you wrote Vivian’s essay for her and that you were messing with her.
“Then tell them Vivian didn’t copy your essay. And everything that happened was just your joke.”
I sneered, “Seriously, Samson?”
He nodded earnestly.
I was furious.
“Samson, if I did this, it’d mean I filed a false police report. It’s illegal, and it’ll stay on my record for life. It may even affect my job prospects! Are you sure about this?”
He was a bit annoyed.
“Grace, you’ve already been admitted to MIT. But Vivian has lost everything. Can’t you help her?
“I’ve never asked you for a favor, right? Just this once. I’m

begging you. Can you do me a favor? I’m your brother.”
I smiled bitterly, “Samson, really?
“Are you really my brother?
“Or are you in fact Vivian’s brother?”
His face turned pale at once.
“What are you talking about? I don’t follow, Grace.”
