Chapter 12
I traveled afar, experienced the charm of every season, and tasted the sweet aroma of fruits.
I saw unspoiled natural beauty and the brilliance of ancient civilizations.
Then I flew to another place to see the sunrise and the ascent of
colorful hot air balloons.
I witnessed the golden sunlight on the highest mountain.
I went to islands, churches, and museums.
Every trip filled me with a profound sense of freedom. I no longer longed for anyone’s love.
On my journey of rediscovery, I realized no one could love me. better than I could.
With money on my side, I never faced much hardship along the
way.
In my free time, I called Tommy and sent him souvenirs.
Years passed like this, one after another.
When Tommy turned 12, his grandmother passed away.

By the time I rushed back, he had grown much taller. But the moment he saw me, his lips trembled, and he burst into tears.
From that day, he was alone in the world.
I held him close, my heart aching,
I asked, “Do you want to come with me?”
Without hesitation, he nodded.
He said, “Godmother, please take me with you.”
After completing the guardianship transfer, I saw Ryan on the
street.
His hair was long and unkempt.
His clothes were dirty, and his eyes were hollow.
A car stopped near him. Daniel stepped out, grabbed him, and tried to force him into the car. Ryan struggled desperately, refusing to go.
I frowned, wondering when their relationship soured like this.
He shouted, “I don’t want to go back. The house is so big, and I’m all alone. I’m scared.
“Why did you drive Mom away?”
Daniel lit a cigarette and let him go.

He scoffed, “I wasn’t the only one who drove her away. Don’t you remember? You wrote it all in your diary.
“Didn’t you like Ms. Hughes? Why don’t you go find her?”
Ryan seemed to remember something.
He bent over, vomiting. “I don’t like her.”

Leaning against a lamppost, Daniel smirked, “Oh? Is it because you saw her strip and try to seduce me that day?”
I couldn’t believe Daniel could say such things in front of a child.
He suddenly grabbed Ryan again and shoved him into the car.
He said, “Let’s go. Your mom stayed in that house for seven years. This is just the beginning.”
I watched as the car drove off and sighed deeply.
But none of this concerned me anymore.
Three days later, I boarded a flight to another city with Tommy.
From that moment on, we would depend on each other.
