Chapter 8
Grace clenched her hands at her sides into fists, trying her best to sound calm.
“Antonio, think carefully. If I leave, I’ll never come back.”
Rolling her eyes, Celeste said, “Just go. You’re annoying us.”
The Kaufman Group was thriving, and Antonio was no longer the man he once was.
Grace realized that from the moment he had threatened to ruin her family’s company, she should have realized the fact that he’d never change back.
“Fine. I’ll leave. Antonio, I hope you won’t regret this.”
As Grace walked out of the door, she saw Maggie with a worried face. “Ms. Parrish…”
She patted Maggie on the shoulder. “Don’t worry. Once I settle down, you can join me if you want.”
Maggie nodded hard, her eyes firm. “You’ve been taking charge of the company’s business over the years, and you’re the one who’s friends with our major clients.
“Yet Mr. Kaufman kicked you out for that wicked woman. He’ll regret this.”
Even Maggie could tell, yet Antonio was too blind to realize this fact.

Grace knew there was no place for her at the Kaufman Group anymore.
She did her best managing the company during the past five years, and she was confident to say she didn’t let Antonio’s dad, Peter Kaufman, down.
Recalling Antonio’s absurd request that she had to bear a baby for Celeste, she didn’t even want to stay in their home any longer.
She packed up and left the place where she had lived for five
years.
Antonio, who barely came home, soon realized she was gone, which was odd.
She was cooking in her new place when he called.
“Grace, where the heck are you?”
Grace had heard his harsh tone like this countless times, yet it still hurt.
“What’s up?” she said.
Antonio sounded impatient. “There’s a charity gala tonight. Come with me. I’ll have someone pick you up.”
They always attended such events together, and it was her duty to play the role of Antonio’s wife who was in love with him.
She put down the ladle. “I see.”
The guests at the gala were all influential figures.

Wearing an elegant dark green velvet gown, Grace looked poised and graceful.
The second Antonio saw her, his eyes lit up.
Celeste beside him noticed it and tugged at his arm unhappily. “Antonio…”
Antonio snapped back to reality and cleared his throat to mask his embarrassment.
“You’ve got a date already. Why am I here?” Grace said.
She felt she was the third wheel as she saw their clasped
hands.
Antonio scoffed, “I never said I wanted you to be here to be my date.”
Just then, a grating voice rang out.
“My, my. Grace? Now that Mr. Kaufman is here at the gala, shouldn’t you be grasping the chance to enjoy yourself with another man in your bed with Mr. Kaufman?”
The voice was quite loud, attracting everyone else’s attention. They looked at Grace and whispered.
“She looks so high and mighty as if no men can ever be allowed to get near her. Who knows? She’s just a slut who cheats on Mr. Kaufman.”
“How shameless. She actually has the nerve to come here.”
“Maybe she came here after having an affair. See that charming look on her face? Hardly any man can resist such temptation.”

Grace’s face turned pale as she was surrounded by them.
She felt like a clown being sized up and mocked.
The Kaufman Group had been moving into top gear, and Antonio’s attitude toward her at the press conference was quite clear.
To butter him up, those people hurled abuse at her at their will.
Antonio was the one who cheated on her and betrayed her.
Yet, she ended up the one being pointed fingers at.
Wrapping an arm around Celeste’s waist, Antonio smiled contentedly.
Seeing this, Grace felt a sharp pain in her heart, and her face turned ghastly pale.
This was why Antonio asked her to be here.
He wanted her to be insulted and cursed by everyone.
Antonio’s voice carrying a smile rang out, which she felt was a thousand miles away. “Honey, are you happy?”
Celeste said coquettishly, “Yes, I am. Antonio, you’re the
best.”
He kissed her rosy lips and said gently, “She owes you this. She must atone for the sin of our innocent baby for the rest of
her life.”
The harsh words around Grace made her feel as if she had been stripped naked in front of everyone.
