Chapter 11 Such a Filthy Thing
1/8
After entering the room, Joshua said, “Barnett, get up! Why did you unilaterally terminate…”
The words that followed got stuck in his throat. He stared blankly at Aurora on the bed, his mind going blank for a
moment.
Aurora was awakened by his shout. She slowly opened her eyes and was also stunned, taking a moment to figure out where she
was.
Celeste, who had just entered, exclaimed, “Aurora, why are you sleeping in your brother’s bed?”
Aurora froze in place, thinking, “Brother? Barnett?
Doesn’t he dislike me? Why did he carry me into his room?
During the three years at the Elvador Villa, Bertha could freely enter his bedroom, while I am never allowed to set foot in it.”
Both Joshua and Celeste had extremely terrible expressions. They searched around the room for Barnett, but there was no sign of him in the bedroom.
Joshua looked at Aurora with a sullen face and asked, “Where’s your brother?”

Aurora gave him a cold glance and didn’t answer.
She got out of bed unhurriedly and then limped towards the door.

But Joshua and Celeste blocked her way, standing right in front of the door.
Seeing that they showed no intention of moving, Aurora slightly frowned, “Excuse me, please move aside.”
Joshua was already angry about the suspension of cooperation between the Sherwood Group and the Elvador Group. Now, with Aurora’s indifferent attitude towards him, as if he were a stranger, his anger flared up even more.
He shouted, “I’m your father. Is this how you treat your elders? You have no manners at all. Who spoiled you with these bad habits?”
Celeste quickly tried to smooth things over. “Joshua, why are you being so harsh on our daughter? Talk to her nicely.”
Joshua snorted, “Then you ask her. Why is she sleeping in her brother’s room instead of her own?
“She’s in her twenties, and she’s not a child anymore. On the first day back, she’s already causing trouble. Even if it’s her brother, she can’t just come and sleep in his bed at night, right?
“I’m being harsh on her for her good. Why don’t I scold Bertha? Bertha wouldn’t do such a filthy thing. Who knows what she’s up

to? Maybe…”
“Okay, enough,” Celeste hurriedly interrupted him.

Even though Joshua didn’t finish his words, anyone could guess what he was going to say.
Aurora’s heart ached.
She knew that the people of the Elvador family didn’t like her, but she never thought that her father would think so lowly of
her.
Barnett was Aurora’s brother. What ulterior motives could she
have?
The person who could say such things was truly despicable.
Aurora concealed the hurt in her eyes. When she looked up again, her expression was calm.
She said calmly, “Are you done? If so, please move aside. I want to leave.”
Joshua was so angry that his chest heaved. He stood there motionless, his eyes becoming colder and more menacing.
Celeste looked even more worried. “Aurora, why are you so stubborn? Tell your father where your brother has gone.”
“I don’t know.” With that, Aurora tried to squeeze past them sideways.

Suddenly, her arm was grabbed by a cold, large hand and forcefully yanked backward.
Aurora fell to the floor instantly. Her injured leg was twisted

again, and the pain was so intense that she couldn’t get up, lying prone on the floor.
Celeste exclaimed, “Joshua, you’re crazy.”
“You’re not leaving this room until you explain yourself,” shouted Joshua.
Aurora endured the pain and looked up, meeting Joshua’s fierce gaze. There was so much malice in his eyes. It didn’t look like a father looking at his daughter, but rather like looking at a prey he could manipulate at will.
She hated this look and couldn’t help but want to escape.
Aurora slowly stood up, using her hands to support herself, and forced herself to remain calm. “I don’t know where Mr. Elvador
- is. Instead of asking me, you might as well call him.”
“Yes, let’s call him.” Celeste quickly dialed Barnett’s phone.
The next second, they heard the phone ringing coming from the study next to the bedroom.
Joshua and Celeste exchanged a look and then rushed towards the study.

As soon as they opened the door, a strong smell of alcohol hit them.
They turned on the light and saw Barnett sitting on the floor with his back against the wall, surrounded by empty wine bottles.
Frowning at the sudden light, Barnett slowly opened his eyes.

Seeing this, Joshua became even angrier and pointed at Barnett, shouting, “Look at what a mess you’ve become.”
Barnett casually shook the wine bottle in his hand. Finding it empty, he threw it aside.
Joshua was furious. “Tell me. Why did you suddenly terminate the cooperation with the Sherwood Group? The Sherwood Group is an important partner of ours. Besides, Adolph and Bertha are engaged. Did you think about the company and Bertha’s feelings when you did this?”
A mocking smile showed on Barnett’s face. His voice was hoarse and tinged with drunkenness. “Did Adolph think about these things when he had people bully Aurora?”
“What are you talking about?” asked Joshua.
Barnett sneered and struggled to his feet.
He said, “Adolph instigated the prisoners in jail to beat Aurora, slap her, force her to kneel, pour toilet water down her throat, and prick her with needles. Do you know why Aurora’s leg is

lame? Because her leg was broken.”

As he listed this one by one, Joshua and Celeste’s eyes widened
in shock.
“It’s impossible,” said Joshua.
Barnett tapped his phone a few times. The next second, Joshua and Celeste’s phones rang.
“Take a look. This is the information Morgan found,” said
Barnett.
In the materials, lines of cold text and shocking photos mercilessly exposed the inhumane treatment Aurora had endured in prison.
Celeste instinctively covered her mouth with her hand, and tears welled up in her eyes.
Joshua’s expression became complicated. He frowned tightly, and it took him a long time to say slowly, “Barnett, you were too impulsive.”
Barnett looked up expressionlessly. “Should I have just watched my sister being brutally beaten and done nothing?”
Joshua was silent for a long time, then sighed, “It is like hurting the enemy at the cost of self–harm. Terminating the cooperation with them is of no benefit to Elvador Group.”
As if to prove his words, his phone rang immediately.

After answering the call, Joshua’s expression turned even more terrible. “Barnett, because of your decision, Elvador Group has lost one billion dollars.”
Barnett’s expression changed, and his lips trembled slightly. But in the end, he just pressed his lips tightly together, remaining silent.
Celeste, who was beside them, was already in a panic. She paced anxiously, rubbing her hands constantly. “What should we do? What can we do?”
Joshua slowly exhaled. “The only way is to resume the cooperation with the Sherwood Group.”
With that, he dialed Adolph’s phone.
The moment the call connected, the air in the study seemed to freeze.
Joshua’s expression changed constantly as the call went on. His brows furrowed and then relaxed at times.
Finally, the call ended, and Joshua slowly put down his phone.
Seeing this, Celeste asked with a trembling expectation in her voice, “What did Adolph say?”
Joshua answered, “He said that we can resume the cooperation, but he demands that Aurora go to the hospital tomorrow and apologize to his sister in person.”

Just then, Bertha’s voice suddenly sounded. “Aurora, it’s so late. What are you doing standing outside Barnett’s study?”
