Chapter 18
I had to endure the pain.
I said to Antonio coldly, “Mind what you’re saying. You’re my former employer, and I’m a fired employee. That’s all.”
Antonio gaped.
“Grace, we were together for five years. You’re denying it because of this man?”
It was ridiculous.
He was the one who wouldn’t admit our relationship. Heartbroken, I left him. And now, he made it my fault.
“Be serious, Mr. Kaufman. Thank you for everything in the past five years. It’s my wedding in a week. If you want to, you’re welcome to come.”
Antonio sneered, “Wedding? You’ve been making trouble all this time. It turns out you’ve been trying to make me marry you?
“I told you the time isn’t right. You’ve waited five years. What’s the rush now?”
He was still full of himself.
I waved my hand to display the diamond ring and showed him the marriage certificate I got today.
I mocked, “Mr. Kaufman, are you forgetting something? I was only an employee of your company. How could I make you marry me?
Chapter 18
“Go back to your girlfriend. I need to go home with my husband.”
I held Patrick’s hand. Our fingers intertwined.
Antonio fixed his eyes on my stamped marriage certificate, petrified.
When he saw Patrick and me holding hands, he clenched his fist and swung it at Patrick like a madman.
Afraid that I might get hurt, Patrick let go of my hand and dragged me behind him.
At the commotion, Ian came out and clutched the back of Antonio’s collar.
“Antonio, you have some nerve to show your face here. Now that you’ve presented yourself, don’t blame me for what I’m about to do!”
Antonio was nervous for a moment. But then, anger got the better of him.
“If I hadn’t come, you’d have married my wife to someone else!
“If you hadn’t encouraged her, Grace wouldn’t have left me. She loved me…”
Two slaps from me shut him up.
“Antonio, remember. You were my former boss. That’s all. You said it yourself.”
Antonio finally realized his words drove me to another man.
“Grace, I thought you’d lost your memory. I didn’t know how to tell you. I didn’t mean it. How could you take it seriously? Didn’t you say you’d only marry me and nobody else?
“I don’t care you’ve married this man. Divorce him tomorrow and go home
with me. I’ll marry you immediately.”
Several minutes ago, he had just said the time wasn’t right.
Now that he knew he’d lost me forever, he claimed he could marry me anytime.
“Antonio, your girlfriend is Ruth. I don’t wanna be the other woman.
“I saw you kissing her at the concert. The photos in your safe told me how you missed her. So, leave me alone. You make me sick!
“You were never over her in the past five years. Now that she’s back, cherish her. I hope you two grow old together.”
Then, neither of them could hurt anyone else.
Hearing what I said, Ian got furious.
He gestured for Patrick to take me inside.
Before I could close the door, I heard the sound of punches.
“Bastard! You toyed with her for five years! Damn you!”
Afraid that something serious might happen, I asked Patrick to keep an eye on Ian.
Patrick gently pulled me into his arms to comfort me.
“Grace, Ian knows what he’s doing. If I go out, something serious will happen.”
He was trembling. I realized he wanted to tear Antonio into pieces himself.
“Patrick. I’m sorry. I should’ve completely cut ties with my past. If you
mind…”
He pressed his forehead against mine.
“Grace, you’re my wife now. No one can take you away from me.”
My eyes reddened. I looked up and kissed his check.
Ian was still punching Antonio. Through the window, Antonio saw me kiss Patrick. His heart throbbed.
He didn’t understand. How could I fall for another guy?
But he knew once I set my mind to something, there was no turning back.
Unless Patrick hurt me as much as he did, I’d never get back together with him.
At that moment, Antonio felt he’d lost the whole world.
The past with Ruth was unforgettable. He wanted to fulfill his promises to her to make himself feel better.
Afterward, he’d marry me.
It was no big deal. How could I marry someone else because of it?
Antonio had his assistant check the surveillance footage and finally realized how wrong he had been.
But it was too late.
In a wedding gown, I was in the middle of my grand wedding with Patrick.
A congratulatory message from an unknown number came.
Later, lan told me after Antonio came back, he broke up with Ruth.
It got ugly. Everyone in the company knew I was Antonio’s girlfriend and Ruth was the other woman, who drove me away.
Antonio found out how Ruth hurt me. He gave her a dose of her own medicine.
But what was the point?
Patrick and I had begun our new life.
The end.
