Chapter 28
My eyes were all blurry.
I couldn’t tell if it was the rain or my tears that were blinding me.
My coat was soaked through, and there was red seeping through the sleeves.
I guessed when I was carrying the luggage downstairs just now, the scab on my arm got pulled open again.
I didn’t feel any pain; I just felt numb all over as I dragged my suitcases and walked toward the villa area’s exit.
I wasn’t sure if the school dormitory was still open by now.
Actually. I didn’t even know where I was going.
Lacey ran after me, shouting in a voice that sounded like she was about to cry, “Grace, Grace!”
Then came Ruben’s urgent voice, stopping her.
“Don’t you know how sickly you are? What if you catch a cold in this
rain?”
For a second, I thought he was talking to me.
In that daze, I barely heard what he said next, “Mason, tell the maid to make some hot milk for Lacey!”
I tried to smile, but my lips just twitched and nothing happened.
I hardly slept last night and rushed over carly this morning to pack.
Now, standing in the heavy rain. I felt dizzy.
Just as I was about to fall, a hand grabbed me firmly.
And the rain on my head stopped all of a sudden.
I struggled to lift my eyes, and it took me a while to see clearly–it was Antonio, my senior from the same department.
His car was parked right there in the pouring rain.
He took the luggage from my hand without saying anything and put it into the trunk.
Ruben sneered from behind me, “So you leave so decisively because you’ve found someone important to rely on.”
He probably followed me just to see me in this embarrassing situation.
Seeing how down and out I was, Antonio felt angry for me.
“Why do you even bother with brothers like these?
“You’re leaving in a few days anyway…”
I quickly interrupted him, “Antonio!”
Antonio finally shut up.
He opened the car door and forcibly helped me into the car.
From the corner of my eye, I saw Ruben’s face darken for a moment.
“Antonio, what do you mean?”

Antonio scoffed with a look of disgust. “You’ll know in a few days.”
My heart jumped up to my throat at that moment.
Ruben stood there, like he was in a daze for a long time.
It wasn’t until the car was about to leave that he rushed forward, trying to yank open the car door.
Antonio had got in and promptly locked the doors.
Through the car window and the rain, I could only barely see Ruben’s lipst moving.
“Grace, get out of the car!”
He looked really angry, but there seemed to be some other strange feeling mixed in there.
I couldn’t figure it out. I just knew that, by now, my leaving probably didn’t matter much to him or Mason.
I closed my eyes and didn’t look at Ruben anymore.
As the car pulled away, I could still see Ruben standing there for a long time in the rearview mirror.
Antonio shouted angrily, “They hurt you and kicked you out in the middle of this heavy rain. I don’t know why you came back to put up with this.”
I glanced out the car window at the rain pouring down like a waterfall.
After a long silence, I spoke softly, “They used to be really nice to me.”
Antonio didn’t believe it.

He only met me when I was in college and had never seen my brothers. being kind to me.
My eyes got a little misty, and I repeated seriously. “It’s true. They used to be really nice to me.”
