Chapter 7
After my words, Antonio fell into an even deeper silence.
Another month passed.
He was exceptionally considerate, attentive, and caring toward me, but it felt like a fleeting glow before the end.
I knew our relationship was over. His current efforts were just damage control.
Once I was well enough, he returned to work.
It was time for me to leave the hospital and plan my trip
abroad.
Antonio had promised to help with the discharge procedures, but when I left the hospital, he only sent a brief message, saying he was busy at work and would call later.
I’d waited for five years and no longer wanted to wait another second.
Antonio still hadn’t signed the divorce papers, but it was only a matter of time.
As I was about to leave, Chad sent me a message.
He said Antonio’s company was having serious financial problems, with investors pulling out.
He reminded me not to be lenient.

Antonio’s downfall was inevitable.
I smiled bitterly.

Even Chad, an outsider, knew Antonio had had it too easy these past years with my help.
Just as I was about to turn off my phone, Chad added an apology, “I also bear responsibility for what has happened. I tried to hide things to protect your relationship, hoping Antonio would come to his senses, but I was wrong about him.”
I read the message several times before replying, “It’s okay. I know it hasn’t been easy for you.”
After sending the reply, I booked a flight for the next day.
Scrolling through the workgroup, I felt a strange sense of relief that I hadn’t given up my career for Antonio.
Men’s promises are unpredictable. It’s best to keep one’s own destiny in hand.
Valda’s latest post exploded across LinkedIn.
I thought she was celebrating her victory.
But when I clicked to block her, I found posts where she claimed to be a victim of her boss’s harassment and
subsequent abandonment.

The posts painted her as innocent.

Scrolling through her profile, I realized she deleted all those sugar baby brags and uploaded some fabricated chat logs.
Under her post accusing Antonio, the comments were filled with outrage.
After skimming through them, I smiled wryly.
It seemed Valda was desperate for money, likely after failed attempts to extort compensation from Antonio.
This explained why she’d leaked their relationship online.
With no intention of returning to my old home or keeping anything linked to Antonio, I turned off my phone and took a taxi to the mall to buy essentials for my trip abroad.
As I was about to pay and leave, I noticed that Antonio’s company’s products and ads had been removed from the mall.
Something was wrong. I checked my phone and found that Valda had exposed some damaging information about Antonio’s company online.
It turned out that Antonio had secretly switched materials in the contracts I had helped him secure.
I was furious and quickly messaged my former business friends to explain my innocence, stating that I was unaware or Antonio’s actions and that legal procedures should be
followed without considering my reputation.
I thought he was only unfaithful in our relationship, but I never expected him to be dishonest in business too.
As soon as I finished messaging, Antonio called, but I hung up

and blocked him.
That night, I stayed in a hotel.

I thought that once I left the country, we could finally put an end to things.
But the next day, when I arrived at the airport, I saw Antonio waiting at the entrance.
