Wren’s brow furrowed deeply at his accusation. She looked him directly in the eyes and said, “Alexander, do you honestly believe I was the one who told Oscar about the divorce?”

Alexander said coldly, “Who else would have informed him, if not you?”

He recalled how Wren had deliberately avoided him while taking that phone call at the courthouse and how soon after her call had ended, his mother had contacted him.

With a look of disdain, Alexander said to Wren, “Considering my father’s condition, we’ll need to postpone the divorce. Are you satisfied now?”

Wren felt a pang in her heart despite her resolve to remain detached. She was truly hurt by Alexander’s sharp words and contemptuous gaze.

Taking a moment to steady herself, she replied, “Mr. Clark, there’s no need for you to behave this way. Believe me, I am as eager for this divorce as you are.”

She then added with a slight smile, “Your father isn’t feeling well today. That’s alright. I’ll speak to him about it again tomorrow.”

Alexander looked at Wren skeptically, his pupils narrowing as he tried to determine if she was being truthful.

Just as he was about to speak, the door to the hospital room opened. Daisy appeared, saying, “Oscar wants to see you both now.”

Alexander and Wren entered Oscar’s hospital room one after the other.

Inside, Oscar had regained some composure, though he still looked frail. “Alexander, you cannot divorce Wren. Do you understand that?”

“Understood, no divorce. Just focus on your recovery for now,” Alexander responded with a hint of impatience, though there was a trace of concern in his eyes.

Turning to Wren, Oscar said, “And you, Wren, promise me not to divorce Alexander.”

Without hesitation, Wren nodded. “Of course. I won’t divorce him.”

Only then did Oscar finally feel relieved.

After ensuring Oscar was resting, Alexander and Wren stepped out of the room.

Just then, Wren’s phone rang abruptly.

She answered, and immediately, a sharp, authoritative voice echoed from the other end of the line.

“Wren! You have already returned to the country, but not once have you visited home. Don’t you care about your family anymore? Or do you think you’re too good for us now? Come home right now!”

The person on the other end of the call was Wren’s biological father, Jack Wright.

A smirk curled the corners of Wren’s mouth as she listened, her face devoid of emotion.

“Understood,” she replied coldly before ending the call.

She pocketed her phone and, without giving Alexander another glance, walked away.

At the entrance of the Wright family estate.

Wren keyed in the security code at the front gate of the house.

“Incorrect password.”

The automated system rejected Wren’s attempt to open the door.

With a slight frown, Wren tried again, but the password was still incorrect this time.

A laugh, cold and mocking, escaped her lips.

Opting not to knock, she made her way around to the back of the house.
