Series 16
Five minutes later, she returned wielding a hefty sledgehammer.
With a powerful swing, she shattered the door lock with the hammer.
The loud bang set off a shrill alarm that echoed throughout the property.
Almost instantly, the door swung open.
The butler, looking alarmed and flustered, confronted Wren as he stepped outside, “This is outrageous! Do you know whose house this is? How dare you try to break in like this!”
Ignoring the butler, Wren tossed the sledgehammer aside and strode into the house.
Inside, Jack was heading toward the door, alarmed by the commotion. “What’s all this noise?”
He stopped short when he spotted Wren.
Jack’s eyes widened. He was completely taken aback.
The butler hurried in after Wren, pointing accusatorily at her. “Mr. Wright! She just broke through the door with a hammer!”
From another part of the house, a middle-aged woman’s voice rose in concern. “Jack! What was that sound?” She hurried towards the commotion.
The sight of Wren caused the middle-aged woman to gasp in shock, her hand flying to her mouth. “Oh my God, Wren? Is it really you?”
Hearing this, the butler stared at Wren in disbelief, unable to reconcile the elegant woman in front of him with the Ms. Wright he remembered as overweight and plain.
“Wren! You can’t just return and start destroying the house. Have you lost your mind?” Jack said sharply once he collected himself.
With a calm smile, Wren responded, “I attempted to use the password, but it kept rejecting it as incorrect. This is my home. I couldn’t possibly remember the wrong password. It seems the lock must be malfunctioning. I figured a firm strike might just set it right.”
Jack’s expression stiffened momentarily.
He had intentionally changed the password to signal to Wren that she was no longer welcome here after she had left the country three years ago and refused to acknowledge her mistakes.
The thought of her trying to break in with a hammer sent a surge of irritation through him.
As Jack’s anger flared, visible tension in his forehead, he fixed a stern gaze on Wren.
