Chapter 4
“Lock her in the bathroom. Get a couple of waiters to clean up the mess on the carpet, it’s disgusting*%
Two low ranking lackeys grabbed my arms and dragged me into one of the restrooms in the VIP suite
I called out desperately to everyone present. “Call 911, please, someone call 911%
One of the young hostesses looked womed and spoke up timidly. “Mr. Harrington, she really doesn’t look well. Maybe we should let it go, she’s pregnant after all.“%
Timothy yanked the young hostess’s hair and slapped her. “Who do you think you are questioning my buddy’s decisions?“%
The young woman fell silent, forcing a smile despite the fear etched on her face.%
The more experienced hostesses laughed. “Sweetie, you’re too young. This is just one of those tricks wives use to manipulate men. Trust us, if Mr. Harrington took her home, she’d be up and about in no time.”%
Lilian, feeling smug, pretended to console me. “Rosalind, Zachary’s just thinking of your best interests. Just stay in the bathroom and clean up, don’t embarrass yourself.“%
Lilian swayed her hips as she settled back onto Zachary’s lap, casting a triumphant glance back at me. Her lips moved silently, taunting, “You lost.“%
Outside, the party continued with music and laughter, while inside, I was left alone in despair
I leaned against the cold tiles of the floor, mustering every ounce of energy to pound on the door. “Help.“%
The door shut, muffling my already weak cries for help.
It felt like a thousand nails were piercing through my body as I recalled the prenatal classes I’d attended. The contractions were getting closer together. I tried to calm my breathing, focusing on delivering the baby safely on my own.%
Stay calm, Rosalind, you can do this. The baby needs you.
Tears mingled with sweat as my voice grew hoarse from shouting. Below my waist, it felt as if I was being torn apart, the air heavy with the scent of blood.%
I had no idea how much time had passed; everything was getting worse.%
The pain was excruciating… the baby wasn’t coming out. Panic and fear gripped me as I touched the blood beneath me, trembling.% With shaky fingers, I wrote “SOS” on the frosted glass door of the bathroom.
I slapped several bloody handprints on the door to draw attention from outside.%
Someone who had just left the neighboring bathroom noticed and shouted, “Zachary, something’s wrong!
“The bathroom door is covered in blood; she might actually be in labor.”
Hope flickered within me at the sound of someone noticing.”
Hang in there, baby. (
A drunken Zachary sneered, “What blood? She probably snuck a bottle of wine in there. The baby’s only seven months along, there’s no way it’s coming now, she’s just acting.”%
The person hesitated, trying to persuade him. “Zachary, maybe we should just take a look. Better safe than sorry.”
Zachary remained indifferent, while Lilian in his arms cooed, “Resalind has pulled this stunt before, trying to get Zachary to fire me. You don’t know her, she’s just upset Zachary didn’t spend New Year’s with her.”
The people outside gave up, and the glimmer of hope in my eyes faded
A sharp pain from my belly brought me back to reality.
No, I can’t give up Baby, Mama will save you%
I took off my jacket, using my fingers to write a plea for help in blood on it.
With every ounce of strength I had, 1 climbed onto the toilet, trying to push the jacket through the vent above, hoping someone would see
it outside 2
But the intense pain made standing impossible, and the jacket got stuck
I bit my lip until it bled, managing to throw the jacket out at last.
Then, my foot slipped, and I fell backward with a loud crash.%
The noise caught the attention of those outside.
As darkness closed in, I thought I heard Zachary’s voice: “Rosalind ”
