Chapter 4
Samuel greeted them. “Mr. and Mrs. Clarke, what a small world!”
They smiled, “Samuel, long time no see. These people are…”

Samuel smiled back and introduced, “This is my fiancée and her parents.”
“Ah, I see. Looks like Ethan needs to step up his game,” they replied.
They exchanged polite pleasantries, but I couldn’t smile.
The couple were Ethan’s parents, and it was clear they didn’t know that Ethan and I had already gotten married.
Ethan remained expressionless.
The girl next to him spoke up, “Lady, why are you staring at Ethan? Do you know each other?”
I didn’t say anything and just kept staring at Ethan.
He glanced at me and said flatly, “We’re not close.”

I wasn’t sure how I left the hotel. By the time I realized what was

going on, Samuel had already dropped me and my parents off at the place we used to live.
After my parents went inside, I followed Samuel out. I asked,
“So, you knew Ethan was there, and you brought me to meet them on purpose, right?”
Samuel didn’t deny it. “I wanted you to understand your position and stop dreaming about what you can’t have.”
I laughed, “Samuel, you don’t need to worry about Ethan and
me.”
Samuel got a little annoyed. “Selina, wake up. Today, in front of his parents, he didn’t even acknowledge you. And you still want to be with him?”
I looked at Samuel. “What about you? What makes you any better than him?”
Samuel was speechless.
When he first took me home, his mom didn’t approve of me. She scolded me fiercely.
Samuel didn’t say a word in my defense. He just let me endure it.
He blushed with embarrassment. “I’ll change, okay?”
I shook my head. “There’s no we anymore.”

Samuel left, looking defeated.
Once I stepped back into the house, my mom pulled me into the room. “Selina, did something happen between you and Samuel?” She looked concerned.

My mom was sharp. She’d already noticed that my stuff wasn’t in the room anymore.
I told her that I had broken up with Samuel but didn’t mention anything about Ethan.
She didn’t ask further. She just said she would support whatever decisions I made.
After my parents went to bed, I got a call from Ethan.
“You’re not home? Where did you go?” he asked.
I replied honestly, “I’m at Samuel’s place, where I used to live.”
I could feel Ethan’s anger through the phone. “So, you’re in a hurry to be with Samuel?”
I stayed calm. “My parents are here. I don’t want them to know about my situation right now.”
There was a long pause on the other end, then he said, “Wait for me. I’ll come find you.”
I hung up and stood on the balcony, quietly watching the night outside.

I had stayed in this city for Samuel, but now, it felt like there was nothing left here that I wanted to hold onto.
Soon, Ethan’s car stopped downstairs.
Not wanting to disturb my parents, I went downstairs and got
into his car.
Ethan smoked a cigarette before speaking, “So, Samuel has turned over a new leaf, and now you’re trying to kick me to the curb?”
I almost denied it, but then I realized that wasn’t the point.
“Ethan, we never had any real feelings for each other,” I said.
Ethan suddenly leaned in, one hand bracing against the car window, the other grabbing my chin.
“Who says we have no feelings?” he murmured. “No feelings? Just do it a few more times, and it’ll come.”
He kissed me. I used all my strength to push his hand away.
“Ethan, who’s that girl with you today?” I asked.
Ethan froze and pulled back. A complicated look appeared on his face.
I quickly figured out the truth.

Before he could say anything, I forced a smile. “Ethan, thanks for everything you’ve done for me these past few days.
“We were always just playing a game of chance. I’m willing to accept the loss. No hard feelings.”
Ethan cupped my face, and I felt his hand trembling.
“So, you’re giving up on me now?” he said bitterly. “I guess it makes sense. If you can give up on Samuel, then why not me?”
I tried to explain, but he covered my mouth with his hand.
“Selina, I don’t agree to the divorce.” His voice was low and firm. “Give me some time. I’ll explain everything.”
Ethan left, but the scent of his cigarette lingered in the air.
