Chapter 11
When I woke up again, Cedric was sitting by my bedside.
He no longer looked vibrant and confident. Instead, he appeared haggard and exhausted. Dark circles shadowed his eyes, and stubble darkened his jaw -clear signs he hadn’t slept in days.
I moved my fingers slightly.
He jerked his head up, his eyes lighting up instantly.
“You’re awake! Do you want some water? Are you in pain anywhere? I’ll call the doctor!”
I grabbed the edge of his shirt.
“You should rest first. Thank you.”
Cedric seemed caught off guard, freezing for a moment.
A few seconds later, his face broke into a smile as if struck by immense joy.
He took my hand in his.
“Jeanette, are you worried about me?”
I shyly turned my head away, saying nothing.
He told me that Bethany had been taken away by the police. The knife had missed its mark slightly–had it gone any deeper, I might not have survived.
A flash of ruthlessness crossed Cedric’s face.

“I won’t let her off easily.”
In the days that followed, he barely went to the office, spending all his time at the hospital. Even the slightest softening in my attitude seemed to mean the world to him.
The nurses would occasionally stop by to chat with me.
“Ms. Yates, Mr. Palmer asked me to bring you these fruits before he left. He said grapes are your favorite and he’s already peeled them for you.”
The nurses gathered around, giggling.
“Ms. Yates, Mr. Palmer is so good to you! If only we could meet someone as handsome, rich, and gentle as him.”
I smiled and accepted the fruit.
“Thank you.”
After they left, I dropped my smile and dumped the box of grapes into the trash.
Cedric said that after I was discharged, he wanted to hold a press conference to announce our relationship.
He promised to give me a grand wedding and make me the true lady of the Palmer family.
I just smiled, finding it all ironically amusing.
The very thing Bethany had desperately fought for meant nothing to me.

Chapter 11
Outside, rumors spread like wildfire. Reporters caught wind of the story, claiming I had gotten together with Cedric right after divorcing Herbert- suggesting I had cheated during my marriage and driven a wedge between the brothers.
They vividly crafted this into a scandalous tale of incest among the elite, portraying me as a promiscuous woman who had achieved everything in life by seducing men.
I frowned after hearing this and casually mentioned it to Cedric.
By the next day, all those media outlets had gone completely silent.
After leaving the hospital, I moved directly into Cedric’s mansion.
He was almost completely unguarded around me, not even bothering to lock his study.
Standing at the doorway, my heart pounded violently, nearly jumping out of my throat.
I knew everything about Cedric, including all his shady dealings.
If I could find evidence, I could finally avenge the wrongs done to me in both my past and present lives.
That day, I returned to the mansion from the office.
The entire way home, I felt uneasy.
When I opened the door, the house was completely dark, without a single
light on.
Chapter 11
Usually when I returned, all the lights would be on.
Suppressing my anxiety, I slowly walked inside.
Suddenly, tiny lights began twinkling all around, and a figure appeared in the garden.
He raised his hand, and in the next moment, the entire mansion was immersed in a dreamlike ocean of lights.
Cedric walked toward me step by step.
His gaze was profound, filled with endless tenderness when he looked at me.
I watched as he took out a ring from his pocket and knelt down on one knee.
“Jeanette, will you marry me?”
