Chapter 4
“I’m sorry, Aaron, I just wanted to help… I didn’t mean to,” Wendy said, her eyes welling up with fake tears.
However, Aaron’s face remained as cold as ever. He shook me, his voice now frantic:
“Jennifer, stay awake! Look at me!”
The doctor, who knew my condition best, quickly stepped forward with concern:
“Mr. Preston, your wife needs immediate medical attention. We need to call for rescue right now.”
“But the bets-“Wendy cut in, eyes darting to the live feed. “Monocle’s reputation will be ruined if you cheat the audience!”
Aaron stood there for a moment, deep in thought, before lowering his voice, almost coaxing:
“Jennifer, all you have to do is apologize, and I’ll take you out of here. I won’t let you die, just a little lesson. Give me this one apology, and we’ll go home.”
Home? After this?
At this point, Aaron’s first thought was still his own gain.
I felt disgusted, summoning all my strength to push him away
‘Get away
from me! Why should I apologize to someone like you?!!
“I don’t need your help! Go to hell!”
Aaron didn’t get angry, though. Instead, he ordered in a cold tone:
“Her condition is getting worse, and you’re still standing there? Make her apologize! If anything happens to her, I will make sure you all pay!”
As soon as he finished speaking, the bodyguards rushed forward and forcibly dragged me toward Wendy’s feet. No matter how much I struggled, it was useless.
They pressed my head against the sand at Wendy’s feet, ignoring my desperate attempts to break free, even as the scorching sand burned my forehead.
“Do it,” Aaron murmured, “and we can pretend none of this happened.”
When I refused to speak, he motioned for someone to force my jaw open.
Wendy pretended to accidentally step on my head, putting no pressure at first, but then her designer heel “slipped“, deliberately pushing my head harder into the searing hot sand.
The pain was excruciating as my skin turned red from the burn, the heat creeping further into my scalp: Wendy’s mocking volice echoed
above me:
“Oops, sorry Jennifer, I didn’t mean to, I was just in such a hurry that I accidentally stepped on you… Everyone’s waiting for you to apologize. You can’t drag this out forever,”
“Poor Jennifer… no one’s coming for but us. Stop throwing your little princess tantrum.”
The pain kept radiating through my body. My throat felt dry, my body covered in blood, and I had no strength left to resist.
Just when everyone thought I was about to give in, the sound of a helicopter’s rotors grew louder and louder. A second helicopter descended, its shadow swallowing Wendy’s smirk.
From the sky, a figure in a perfectly tallored sult descended, his eyes scanning the scene with a cold, calculating gaze. His voice cut through the air, cold and terrifying:
“Who said no one’s coming for her?”
