Chapter 5
All the color drained from Zoey’s face instantly.
She screamed in terror, clinging desperately to Dante’s arm like he was her last lifeline.[]
“Dante! Save me! I don’t want to go to jail!“[]
“Dante, tell them it’s a misunderstanding! It’s all a misunderstanding!“]]
Dante’s face looked equally terrible.]]
In front of all his friends, his girlfriend was about to be arrested by the V
This was even more humiliating than being slapped in the face.]]
police.[]
He whipped around to face me, practically snarling through gritted teeth: “Sis, do you really have to be this ruthless?“]}
I stared at him coldly, saying nothing.
He took a deep breath, turned around with a fake smile, and approached the officers.[]
“Officers, this is all a misunderstanding.”
“This is my sister, this is my girlfriend. They had a little disagreement, but I already talked to Zoey about it.”
He tried to use his body to shield Zoey while talking.]
“Look, it’s late. This is family business–we can handle it ourselves.“]
Then he turned back to me, his tone almost begging.[]
“Sis, do me this favor, okay?“]
“Let the officers go back. We’ll sort this out at home.“]]
He thought I’d compromise and back down like I had countless times before for his pathetic “dignity.“[]
He thought I’d still care about our so–called “sibling bond.“[]
But he had no idea that when I was locked in that filthy, stinking storage room getting beaten to a pulp, that pitiful connection had been completely worn away.[]
I looked at him and spoke clearly to the officer, word by word:[]
“Officer, it’s not a misunderstanding.“]
“The hospital has medical reports documenting my injuries.“[]
“She extorted $200K from me–the bank has transfer records.“[]

“I demand immediate legal action.“]
My words hit Dante like a slap across the face.
His expression froze instantly, shifting from pleading to shock to furious humiliation.[]
The police ignored his attempts to interfere, stepped forward, and handcuffed the still–screaming Zoey.[]
“Let go of me! Do you know who I am? My boyfriend is Dante Blake!“[]
“Dante! Save me! Dante!“[]
Two officers dragged the sobbing, struggling Zoey out of the villa.[]
Her hysterical screams echoed through the silent living room, particularly grating.[]
Dante stood frozen like a statue.[]
All his friends stared at him with looks mixing sympathy, mockery, and schadenfreude.]
His dignity had been torn to shreds by my own hands, thrown on the ground, and stomped on.[]
Finally, after Zoey’s wails completely faded, he spun around.[]
Those once–clear eyes were now bloodshot, churning with towering rage and resentment.[]
“Poet Blake!”
He roared at me, his voice hoarse and distorted with anger.[]
“Are you happy now?!“]
“You just can’t stand seeing me happy, can you? Can’t stand me having anyone close to me?!“]]
“For some outsider, you actually called the cops on my girlfriend! Have you lost your mind?!“]]
He pointed at my face, accusing me sentence by sentence, as if I were the unforgivable criminal.]
The surrounding air was eerily quiet.[]
Those spoiled brats, though they usually acted like Dante’s best buddies, didn’t dare speak up for him now.]
Because the ones from better families vaguely knew that the real head of the Blake family was me.[]
Me–the seemingly fragile woman who could make Dante afraid down to his bones, his own sister.[]
I listened quietly to his rant, feeling nothing inside, even a bit tired.[]
I felt sorry for all the effort I’d put in over the past decade.}
When he finally wore himself out and was gasping for breath.

I raised my hand.]]
SLAP!
A crisp slap echoed through the entire living room.]
