Chapter 10
Aquamarine’s POV
The axe came down and my heart jumped out of my body. All I could hear was painful muffled screams.
Blood rushed to my head, and I felt something snap inside me. I pushed past Alexander, but he caught my arm and lifted me to face him. His face was inches away from mine, and I couldn’t feel the hardness of the earth underneath my feet.
“Yo-”
I didn’t let him finish.

I tilted my head and sank my teeth into his hard skin. When I eventually tasted something metallic and bitter, he released me and I crashed to the ground.
I rushed to where Levi stood.“”
“How dare you touch her?!” I screamed and shoved him away. I stared at Katherine’s still form on the floor, and my body seemed like it was instantly thrown in chilling water.
Her hand was still intact and no part of her body was missing. I released a shaky breath as I placed my head on her chest. Her heartbeat was normal, and her breathing was soft.
“Luna Aquamarine, she was try-”
“Not another word.” I snarled at him. My trembling hands loosened the rag binding Katherine’s hand and her mouth.

When I finished, I looked up to see Alexander standing beside Levi, whose head hung low. Other warriors were on their knees with their heads bowed down.
But I wasn’t moved. I didn’t care why they did that and I wasn’t interested in knowing why.
I stood up, holding Alexander’s gaze. There was this spark in his eyes that was hard to miss. But I ignored it. My heart was beating loudly in my chest, but my mind was like a volcano.
I felt myself heat up, and 1 glared at him. “Nobody touches her.”
I don’t know where I got the courage to talk to him like that or even to Levi, but I didn’t care. He can do whatever he wants to other people from the Moonstone pack.
But not my Katherine.
Midway into our staring contest, I felt a shift in Alexander’s aura. Something isn’t right.
Almost immediately, Alexander grabbed me by my waist and threw me inside our tent like I was a piece of linen. Katherine’s body landed closely beside me afterwards with a loud thud, but that wasn’t enough to make her wake up,
Before I could stand on my feet, I heard footsteps running. I looked round to see the shadows of warriors surrounding the tent and shifting into huge beasts, 2 times bigger than the average werewolves.
My eyes widened, and my heart raced. What was happening?
I crawled to Katherine and cradled her tightly while sprinkling water on her face. Please wake up, I prayed.
Then everywhere went silent. The only thing I could hear was my own heartbeat and something else, something deadly.
Suddenly, something hard and sharp hit the ground, making me jump. Then another one tore through the tent, landing on the floor beside me.
My heart pounded inside my ribcage as howls and shouts echoed from outside, but it seemed that the spares… whatever they were out to kill.
“Alexander!” I yelled, my voice hoarse as I frantically searched for where to hide, despite the numerous spares flying in
But where can we stay safe in a small tent like this?

Suddenly, everything froze.
The spares stopped flying, no, some stopped mid–air and everywhere went silent.
My legs trembled as I stood from where I hid, I looked closely at the spares. But they didn’t look like spares.
They looked more like……. vines.
Thick, thorny vines that were twisted like living serpents.
But how?
I walked further and peeked outside. But what I saw shocked me to the bone. My jaw slacked instantly.
Everything was happening in slow motion. Or did time stop? Why were the vines shooting
out here?

My eyes searched for Alexander, and after a while, I found him, but in a very weird position.
He was on his fours, his eyes seemed like a darker shade of gold, and his bones looked like they were rearranging. The sight was disturbing, but the heat emitting from him was unnatural.
But I noticed something oddly disturbing. Most of the vines were positioned towards the tent.
Why? What could it be after?
But before I could do anything, a vine suddenly wrapped me around my waist, pulling me up mid–air.
“Let go of me,” I shrieked, pounding furiously on the vines.
“So you’re the one,” a feminine voice echoed around me, startling me. My gaze darted around, but I couldn’t seem to find the owner of the voice.
Then several vines came together, twisting into a massive face that loomed over me. I never knew I was scared of huge things till now.
Its mouth moved as it spoke, “You think you can tame the devil?” It sneered, its voice sending shivers down my spine.
I struggled against the vines, my wrists, and ankles straining against the bindings. The face laughed, a cold, mirthless sound, but the vines only grew tighter around my waist and I could feel thorns sipping into my flesh.
“Only I have the power to tame him!” The face taunted, and then, almost immediately, it stopped. The smell of burning trees hit me, and everywhere seemed hot.
Suddenly, the vine’s face twisted into a snarl. It released a heart–wrenching screech, piercing my eardrums as it wiggled its vines in the air, making my head spin.
“I’ll get you for this! The devil belongs to me!” it screeched.
“Aquamarine!” Alexander’s voice boomed through the commotion. “Let go,” he screamed, his words followed by the sound of vines snapping and burning.
But he didn’t have to tell me twice.
The vine’s grip on me released, I wiggled out of its grip, and I fell into Alexander’s arms, gasping for breath.
As I looked up at him, I saw his eyes blazing with fury, his jaw clenched. I glanced around, looking at the burnt vines and damaged earth. Everything seemed to die down, and the fire was out.
“Levi! Gather your men!” Alexander barked. “We’re riding home immediately!”
Home? Men?
“We’re taking Katherine along with us,” I spoke up
I definitely won’t leave her out here Only the Goddess knows what she has been through since Alpha Felix’s men separated us days ago.
“You have something else you should be worried about.” Alexander retorted “You burnt me and trust me I never planned on making it slide.” he snarled as he threw me on the horse, caging me between him

I nervously moistened my lips and darted my gaze elsewhere. What could I possibly say to him?
I foolishly threw hot food on the Devil and I even bit him!
What was I even thinking?
I tried to wriggle from his grip, but it only made him pull him closer to him. Beads of sweat formed on my forehead as I felt his body tense and heat up.
“Don’t think for one moment that things will go your way because you managed to ma-,” he growled, and he stopped midway. He took a deep breath and released a hot, shaky one that made the back of my skin prickle with heat. “You better pray there is still time to change things or else, I’ll kill you.”

I swallowed hard and shivered. The courage I had a few moments ago seemed to
been replaced by something else.
His warriors mounted their horses, and I sighed in relief as I saw Katherine with Levi, sharing a horse.

As the journey began, the only thing I could think of was that face.
Who is she and what exactly does she want from me? And most importantly, why isn’t Alexander saying anything about it?
