At the year–end review, Andrew Bennett’s childhood sweetheart, Kate Ross, requested to take over as the project leader, hoping it would help her secure a promotion to vice president.
I had to put the company’s interests first and turned her down. In a fit of anger, she quit and went home to get married.
Under my leadership, the project generated billions of dollars, and the company went public.
Later, I married Andrew, but during our honeymoon, I was kidnapped and taken to an underground facility in Brackenfield.
Just as I was about to call for help, I heard Andrew coldly say, “Do whatever you want with this heartless woman.”
I couldn’t understand. “Why?” I cried out.
Without answering, Andrew kicked me in the stomach. “If you hadn’t taken the project leader position for yourself, Kate wouldn’t have been forced into an abusive marriage and died. This is all on you.”
When I opened my eyes again, I found myself back on the day Kate had asked to be the project leader.

Kate said, “Olivia, is it possible for me to lead the project with the Knight Group? I just need this achievement to get promoted to vice president.”
I froze. Hearing those words again, I looked at the clock on the wall and realized–I had been given a second chance.
Andrew, standing nearby, tugged at my sleeve. “Did you hear what Kate said? Let her have the project leader position. She needs this more than you do.”
In my previous life, when I heard Kate and Andrew’s request, I immediately refused. This project was huge–worth billions of dollars in investment–and securing it would likely lead to the company’s IPO.
Kate wasn’t qualified, and to be safe, I didn’t want her in charge. I told her that once the project was completed, everyone would get a chance at promotion and bonuses. Kate, however, felt insulted, quit, and married without any further contact.
The project was completed successfully, the company went public, and I married Andrew. But during our honeymoon, I was kidnapped.
When I woke up, Andrew was standing next to my kidnappers, saying coldly, “Do whatever you want with this heartless woman.”
Amid all the humiliation, I couldn’t understand why Andrew was treating me this way.

He kicked me in the stomach again. “If you hadn’t taken the project leader position for yourself, Kate wouldn’t have been forced into an abusive marriage and died. This is all on you.”
The memory of that suffering made me seethe with anger, my fingers trembling as I clenched my fists.
Andrew yanked me roughly. “Are you even listening? Give Kate the project leader role.”
I looked at his annoyed face and sneered, “I worked day and night on this project and lost my hair from stress. When I asked Kate to help, you both said I should do more because I was the leader. I drank so much to keep the partners happy that I nearly bled internally. And now you say it’s my responsibility?”
I turned to Kate, my voice dripping with sarcasm. “Why didn’t you step up to lead back then? Now that the proposal’s finished, the deal’s locked in, and all that’s left is to sign the contract, you show up asking to take the lead? How can you even ask?”
Kate’s eyes filled with tears. “It’s just that my family is struggling. I wanted the promotion to help them. My mom said if I couldn’t make enough money, she’d sell me to an old man in the mountains as a bride for my brother’s wedding gifts.” With that, she dropped to her knees and bowed her head.
