Chapter 10
J HET,
At first, the post was viciously attacked by haters, but soon enough, people Nettie had helped in the past began to rally behind pushing the thread back up.
Gradually, the voices of dissent faded. People started to remember all the good Nettie had done.
Then, just as the tide was turning, another fan uploaded a video, leaving a note beneath it:
Tve been Nettie’s fan for five years. Right before her accident, I planned to visit her and offer some encouragement, but I accidentally stumbled on a terrible secret. At first, I wanted to tell Nettie directly, but never got the chance. Afterward, I tried to reach her brother or fiancé instead, but the woman in the video threatened me. To protect myself and my family, we escaped abroad. It’s only today that I finally have a chance to come forward, though it’s already too late.”
The video itself was pitch black, but you could clearly hear a woman’s venomous voice.
“I’ll give you three hundred thousand now. Find some thugs and gang up on her. Afterward, you’ll get another hundred thousand.”
A man’s voice responded, uncertain and uneasy. “But she’s never done anything wrong. Why do you want to ruin her?” The woman gave a cold, mirthless laugh. “She’s standing in the way of my rise to the top. Of course I want her dead!” Suddenly, the video shook violently. At the very end, the camera caught a brief glimpse of the woman’s face–X It was Charis, the brand–new “goddess of dance.”
The internet exploded in an instant.&
be publicly
Everyone had believed the scandal when it first broke–convinced that Nettle was the kind of woman who deserved to b shamed, that she really did indulge in sordid affairs, and that’s why she ended up paralyzed and died at sea.8
none other than
But now, this video made it glaringly obvious: there was someone pulling the strings all along. And that someone was non their newly crowned idol, Charis.
The revelations hit the web like a tidal wave.
People began frantically searching for more evidence of Charis bullying Nettie.
One user, who claimed to have a relative working for the Beaumont family, suddenly posted a new comment: “My cousin has worked for the Beaurmonts for five years. In all that time, Charis has constantly slandered Nettle, and every single time, the young masters of both the Beaumont and Watson families would believe her without question.!
Especially the Beaumont heir–he wouldn’t even bother to ask Nettie anything, just send the bodyguards to punish her.
Over time, Charis became this poor, pitiful figure in their eyes. They granted her every wish, including helping her reach the top.
Even with the recent attack on Nettie, both young masters were involved. Their order was to ruin Nettie’s body, but not go all the way. As for what happened next, well, you all know.”
With the internet in a frenzy, the Beaumont family’s long–buried secrets came surging back to the surface.l
Angry users flocked to the official websites of the Beaumonts and Watsons, hurling insults–calling them blind, heartless.
At the same time, Charis’s Twitter was flooded with hate, and things escalated until people even showed up in person to confront her.S Outside, the world was in utter chaos.
But Calvin and Hurst remained completely unaware.
This was Calvin’s third day adrift at sea.
He sat on the deck, eyes bloodshot, and questioned the diver who had just surfaced. “Well? Any luck?”
The diver shook his head regretfully. “Still nothing.”
With a loud thud, Calvin slammed his fist onto the deck.
Three days. Three whole days!
He hadn’t slept–every ti
time he closed his eyes, he saw Nettie’s body exploding on that yacht.
The moment disaster struck, he’d mobilized the entire Beaumont family’s resources to search the waters.
But now, there was no sign of Nettie–not even a single item of hers had been found.
