Chapter 6
It was Valda, sobbing on the phone.
After hanging up. Antonio told me that Valda, who suffered from claustrophobia, was trapped in a high–floor elevator at the company and urgently needed him, the sole cardholder, to come and handle the
situation.
“Grace, Valda is my subordinate. Let’s go and deal with this, then I’ll take you to the high–tower restaurant you’ve been wanting to try.”
“Honey… don’t be angry with me anymore, and don’t misunderstand me anymore.”
I suppressed my inner annoyance and quickly stood up before Antonio. could touch me, giving him a slight smile.
I agreed to join him for dinner at the High Tower restaurant but needed to get ready first by putting on makeup and choosing an appropriate outfit.
Antonio visibly relaxed upon hearing this and left with a broad smile, promising to return and pick me up right after handling the company
matter.
Eager to save Valda, Antonio rushed out without waiting for the elevator, opting for the fire stairs instead.
As soon as he left, I called my lawyer to confirm that all the marital assets had been discreetly inventoried and filed.
With that taken care of, I packed Antonio’s suitcase for the last time and placed it by the front door, deleting his fingerprints from the smart lock.

I heaved a sigh of relief and sent the long–prepared divorce agreement to Antonio.
That night. despite Antonio’s frantic knocking. I had informed the security guards and slept soundly with earplugs in, ignoring his pleas
As anticipated, the arrogant and aloof Antonio, after standing at my doorstep for hours. did not show his face again.
However, his previously inactive social media account, which had been blocking me. suddenly became active overnight.
Following his departure. Antonio seemed to be living a more unrestrained and carefree life.
In the following month. I experienced a profound sense of joy and comfort that I had never imagined before.
No longer did I have to prepare meals for him daily or wait eagerly for his messages and calls?
I no longer needed to shed tears for anyone or spend sleepless nights alone.
I dedicated all my time to working diligently and living my life freely.
In the afternoon when my boss informed me of my promotion to department head, Carly and I, at the invitation of our college senior. Chad, gathered at the café he owned for a chat.
I never expected to run into Antonio and Valda there.
Upon spotting me, Antonio, with a cold and stern expression as if he had been searching for me for ages, strode purposefully towards me.
He grasped my wrist, attempting to drag me to his car without a word.

Fortunately, Chad and Carly arrived just in time. After a brief tussle, I finally freed myself from Antonio’s grip.
I looked at him with utter coldness. “What do you want?”
Before Antonio could respond, Valda, choosing to ignore the onlookers, pointed an accusing finger at me and launched into a tirade. “Grace, I
never thought you’d be such a shameless woman. You’re still not officially divorced from Tony, and yet you have the nerve to openly cheat with your lover.”
No sooner had Valda finished speaking than Antonio swiftly threw a punch at Chad. “You son of bitch! Who gave you the right to seduce my wife?”
Chad, having been struck without cause, still stood protectively in front of Carly and me, keeping a wary eye on Antonio.
Incensed by Chad’s unprovoked assault, I strode up to Antonio and, without uttering a word, slapped him hard.
