Chapter 1 Antonio’s Fiancée
“Grandpa, I’m ready to come back and be a Kaufman again,” Grace Parrish whispered over the phone.
Her grandpa, Barrett Kaufman, was rejoiced.
“You’re finally coming home! I’ll get everything ready. We’ll go back to our hometown in a month and hold a party for you!”
Grace had always refused to come back home, so Barrett was thrilled to hear she had changed her mind.
After the call, Grace walked alone in a mall. Her eyes fixed on. a screen replaying the proposal video between Antonio Kaufman and Zelma Stanton nonstop.
A powerful tycoon and an elegant beauty–a perfect match not doubt.
Some people stopped to admire the video and exclaimed, “When can I have a rich handsome boyfriend like him?”
Several young girls were envious. “Oh man, Mr. Kaufman actually planted a whole field of roses for Zelma. That’s so romantic! And the engagement ring is unique in the world! You can’t even buy it with money. Mr. Kaufman won it in al race against the designer for her! And I heard he almost got himself killed for this ring! It’s like something out of a novel- risking his life for a smile from his girl. Everyone, I’m totally buying into this love story!”
“Zelma is pretty amazing too, you know. She’s a big deal in the art world. It’s like two superstars joining forces. We could

only be here to cheer for their love.”
Antonio was Barrett’s adopted son and had been close to Grace since she was little.
Grace’s dad left the Kaufman family when he was young and reckless, and she took her dad’s new last name, Parrish.
Antonio was only seven years older than Grace, but after her parents died in an accident, he took care of her himself. In Grace’s memory, Antonio’s young, thin figure was the most beautiful thing.
Grace always felt lonely, but his care made her feel right at home.
They moved from Wintervale to Benbury and spent 13 years together.
Antonio’s moves made Grace’s heart flutter. She fell for him.
On a sunny day, she stood on her tiptoes under a tree and kissed the side of Antonio’s face.
For the first time, Antonio got mad at Grace. He locked her outside to reflect. She shouted and cried, but he did nothing.
After that, the once gentle Antonio changed. He started ignoring Grace and didn’t care about her anymore.
They felt awkward living together. Later, Antonio brought Zelma home, and they quickly started showing off their love and got engaged–all within three months.
He was in such a hurry to get rid of Grace. She had to accept

that Antonio would often come home with another woman, using things that were supposed to be just for her.
After she became a Kaufman, Antonio would be her legitimate uncle. She thought he must be satisfied and did it to thank him for taking care of her for the past thirteen years.
Grace walked out of the mall. Benbury wasn’t as warm as Wintervale. It had snowed several times by mid–November, and the snow on the side of the road was deep enough to cover her lower legs.
She reached out her hand to catch a dancing snowflake, and the thin flake melted in her palm.
With a loud screeching sound, a red Maybach stopped right in front of Grace. A tall man got out of the car, looked at her with a displeased expression, and said irritably, “Grace, if your have nothing to do, just get a job.”
His voice was so cold and detached that it sent a chill through Grace. The Antonio she used to know would never talk to her in such an indifferent tone.
Grace blinked her eyes and answered honestly, “The shower gel at home ran out, so I’m here to buy some.”
Antonio frowned and was about to say something. Zelma opened the passenger door and stepped out, slipping her arm through his in one smooth motion. “Why the long face? You’ll scare Grace. She’s tryna be thoughtful for the family. Can’t you talk nicer?”
Antonio never argued with Zelma. Ever since Grace confessed to him five years ago, he had been avoiding her like she was something terrible.

Antonio smiled and ruffled Zelma’s hair, then they whispered closely.
Grace felt a sharp pain inside. Antonio used to only listen to her whispers, but now he only heeded Zelma’s words. Seeing them together made her heart ache.
“I’ll take a taxi home.”
Grace didn’t want to stay with them. In another month, Antonio wouldn’t have to worry about her anymore because they would officially become a “family.”
