Chapter 15
“Let’s welcome Ms. Grace Fisher. We gather here today to celebrate her return to the Fisher family.
“Today, Mr. Fisher will give 50% of his shares to his daughter Grace.”
I went on the stage and received the shares from Dad in the witness of
everyone.
The applause was deafening.
I sensed a gaze was fixed on me.
I turned my head. It was Antonio. His eyes were sad, as if I had deceived
him.
Indeed, I had kept my identity from him. He had told me everything about his family, but I hadn’t.
It meant I owed him an explanation.
After the transfer, I walked to him.
Before I could say anything, he sneered and spoke.
“Hello, Ms. Fisher.
“How lucky I am. The daughter of one of the richest men in the capital city married me and went through hardships with me.”
I apologized sincerely, “Antonio, I’m sorry for keeping my identity from you. Dad didn’t approve of our marriage. I bet with him.
“If our marriage could last for three years, he’d accept you. I could take

you home to meet him.”
Antonio’s pupils contracted. He peered at me with red eyes.
“Grace, you didn’t cheat on me. As the daughter of the Fisher family, you gave up a comfortable life and married me. It means you loved me. Then, why did you divorce me?”
I stared at Antonio and smiled bitterly. Didn’t he understand?
If I wasn’t his one and only, I’d rather let him go.
I looked into the distance. With a glass of wine in her hand, Emma was buttering up the guests. I shifted my gaze back to Antonio.
“Antonio, ask yourself first. Are you in love with your friend, your first love?
“We loved each other. There was no bad blood between us. Why did we end up divorced? Because there was someone else. Neither my dad nor my family’s wealth separated me from you. Our marriage ended because you fell for another woman.
Antonio shook his head. Confusion was plain in his eyes. He walked toward me.
“Grace, no. I’m not in love with Emma. I’ve always loved you. Only you. I can prove it.
“Emma is just a friend. She’s my buddy. It’s just that she happens to be a
woman.”
I laughed. “If she were a man, you wouldn’t have been that sympathetic. You don’t believe me? We can try and find out.”
Antonio looked at me, puzzled.
I walked toward the crowd Emma was flattering.
These big shots were Dad’s business partners. They could afford to give Emma some projects. It was no big deal to them. It seemed they enjoyed talking to Emma.
The color drained from Emma’s face when she saw me. She gave me a
warning stare.
A man, the survival of whose company depended on Dad, gave his seat to
- me.
He smiled amiably at me, “Ms. Fisher, congratulations. You’re home now and have taken over the family business. Is there anything I can do for
you?”
I smiled.
“Sir. I’m sorry for the interruption. But someone owes me money. I must get my money back, or the person may run away. Nowadays, it’s hard to collect debts.”
The businessmen who had been chatting with Emma all looked at me.
“Wow, how much are we talking about? Even the loaded Ms. Fisher is collecting debts in person.”
“Indeed. Today is Ms. Fisher’s day. The debtor had the guts to come here.”
“Who is it? Is it one of us? I hope we won’t be implicated. We still need. Ms. Fisher’s projects next year.”
smiled again.
“Not much. It’s two debts. The first is one million dollars. It’s a joint risk fund. The second is the stolen 5,000–dollar hospitalization deposit.”
