Antonio finally realized what I was about to do. He rushed over and pulled me aside. “Grace, stop it. You’re gonna ruin Emma’s collaboration. You’re already so rich, aren’t you? You don’t have to do this.”
Amused. I looked at him. “So what if I’m rich? It has nothing to do with this Besides, during the three years I was with you, I was the one who made over 400.000 dollars. Why can’t I get it back?”
He looked at me, his gaze pleading.
“Grace. please. I’m not saying she won’t pay you back. But if you corner her, her life will be ruined; if so, she really won’t be able to pay you
back.”
I stared at him intently for a long time.
Then I said. “See? Antonio, you didn’t pass the test.
“I haven’t even done anything yet. I’m just protecting my rights, and you’re already biased, taking Emma’s side.”
Antonio looked at me, flustered. He moved his lips, wanting to explain,
but he didn’t know how.
I smiled, no longer caring about him..
“Don’t bother trying to explain to me. I don’t need it. As I said, I’d help
you.
“Now, I’ll go and sense your beloved out and see if she really loves you. If so, you have my blessings.

With that, I walked toward Emma.
In fact. I already knew what was gonna happen. If it were the Emma from before, who acted like she was Antonio’s most loyal buddy, she would have definitely come over to defend him and rebuke me. Yet now, she almost wanted to pretend not to know him. Seeing this, I understood everything.

“If you tell these big shots about this, then all you need to do is write me an IOU. I`won’t tell them how you lingered at my house borrowing money from Antonio and how you stayed out all night with him.”
Emma was a shrewd, experienced businesswoman.
Surely, she knew what I was implicating.
I was indirectly telling her that if she threw Antonio under the bus, she could get away without losing anything.

I crooked my finger at Antonio in the distance, signaling him to come. over and watch the show.
He walked over.
With a big smile, Emma said to the big shots, “Gentlemen, you’ve got nothing to worry about.
“You can completely trust me with the project.
“I did owe Ms. Fisher a sum of money before, but you don’t know how I came to owe it, do you? It was because her ex–husband wanted to steal her money away to support his mistress.
“To protect Ms. Fisher’s money, I took her ex–husband’s money under the guise of an investment. I hadn’t had the chance to give it to Ms. Fisher yet, so she came to me to collect the debt. You have no idea how vicious her ex–husband is. He even took away her medical expenses.”
After saying this, Emma looked at me with a fawning smile. She seemed to ask me if I was satisfied, and I nodded at her.
Then I looked at Antonio, who had been standing among the bigwigs. With a pale face, he looked at Emma in great disbelief till she finished.
Yet, throughout her speech, she had never shot him a glance. She had. been skillfully engaging with the big shots here, chatting and laughing with ease.
