Chapter 10
I was discharged three days later.
I paid Antonio back to his account.
During these three days, he never showed up or called me.
Just then, he called and told me, “I need to see a client. I can’t come and pick you up at the hospital.”
“OK.”
I wanted to ask him about something else when I heard a
woman’s voice come from his side, “Come and help me blow dry my hair…”
Antonio hung up immediately.
Later, I received a transfer from him. There was also a message. “I love you. Hope we can be together forever.”
In the past five years, he never transferred money to me.
I once asked him to do it and told him I’d pay him back after I posted it on Instagram, but he still didn’t agree.
Now, I’d decided to let him go. Somehow, he did what I wanted.
Looking at his new Facebook profile picture, I rejected the transfer.
His profile picture was a couple’s photo, but not with me.

Antonio sent me several question marks. I didn’t reply.
I got home. Everything was the same as the day I left.
It seemed he had never been back since that concert.
I forced myself not to think about him. I packed my things to leave.
Half a day passed, and the home ‘d decorated for five years felt desolate.
Most of the stuff I bought for the house were couple things. Antonio didn’t like wearing anything that showed he had a girlfriend.
I used to tease him for being so cautious.
Turned out, he had never really seen me as his girlfriend.
I was still packing when Antonio came back.
“Grace, what’s your problem? I asked you out to dinner. You didn’t answer my calls or reply to my messages.”
When he came closer, I could smell another woman’s perfume on him. I hastened to stop him.
I saw the hickey on his neck and said, “I’ve been too busy to check my phone.”
He looked around, seemingly very upset. “Are you cleaning the house? You just got discharged. Why didn’t you rest?”
He pointed to the several boxes of new objects on the floor. I hadn’t thrown them away. “Are you gonna throw them away?”

I bent over and picked up the boxes. He offered to give me a hand.
“All right. I’ll throw them away. Don’t buy garbage again. You’ve always wasted your money on these things.
“Get dressed and come downstairs. I’m taking you to dinner.”
It was time to tell him I was leaving,
Standing on the balcony, I watched Antonio throw those matching items into the trashcan resolutely.
To him, our five–year relationship was just like those things. How worthless!
I went to a restaurant with Antonio. He ordered the usual dishes, but he also ordered the one I hated the most.
I lost my appetite right away and couldn’t take it anymore.
So, I called the waiter. “Waiter, please take away this dish. No need for a refund.”
Antonio moved the dish in front of him.
“Yes, I didn’t keep you company at the hospital. So what? Stop being so annoying! If you had been more careful, you wouldn’t have ended up in the hospital.”
He used to care about me. Once, had a fever at midnight, and he carried me on his back to the hospital. He was so worried he cried.
This time, he ran me over. I was hospitalized. But he never showed up till I was discharged.

He knew I hated this dish. He’d never ordered it before. Now, just like five years ago when we first met, he ordered it again.
I smiled and said, “I don’t it. It’s disgusting.”
“Then just don’t eat it,” he said impatiently.
I kept smiling and said, “Let’s break…”
I didn’t finish speaking when a girl came up to our table.
“Tony, after so many years, you still remember I like this dish.”
