Chapter 3
One time, Antonio was drinking with his buddies and I overheard them. His friend teased him and asked when he would get married.
Antonio laughed and said, “Who knows? Love ends with marriage. Being single is much better than being married. I’ll postpone it as long as I can.”
“I’m now living with her, and I haven’t gotten bored with her yet.”
“Alright. Grace loves you so much. Even if you didn’t marry her, she wouldn’t leave you.”
“Alas, she’s desperate to marry me! I’m even afraid to have sex with her now. Or maybe she’d use a baby to force me into marriage!”
I was standing outside and heard them joking about me. I felt my heart had been squeezed. So Antonio thought I was. pressuring him to marry me. Even when we had sex, he was on guard.
I believed that once I could prove to Antonio that getting. married wouldn’t affect our love, he’d marry me.
Later, Coleen came back and I knew I was wrong.
Coleen had asked Antonio jokingly whether he’d marry her if he wasn’t taken. Antonio answered without hesitation, “Yes. If. I was single, I’d marry you tomorrow.”

I finally got why Antonio rejected my proposal. He never thought about marrying me.
packed my stuff and it all fit into a small suitcase.
At that time, my phone rang.
I clicked open the message and saw a photo. In the photo, Coleen was sitting in bed and winking at the camera in a lacy nightgown. Behind her was the bathroom. Through the glass, I could see there was a man taking a shower. A pair of men’s underwear and a black lacy bra were on the floor.
Coleen texted, “Girls! Look at this perfect man. He’s mine tonight!”
One second later, Coleen sent another text, “Oops! I’m sorry, Grace. It was a joke with my friend and I accidentally sent it to you! Don’t get the wrong idea. Antonio will go over and spend the night with you.”
It wasn’t the first time Coleen “accidentally” texted me. She often sent me the flirting texts between her and Antonio. She did that to upset me.
When I showed the texts to Antonio and asked him to explain, he’d only snapped at me. “She just wanted to show off to her friends. What’s the big deal?”
“You don’t trust me? If you’re gonna doubt my loyalty over a few texts, then forget about getting married.”
This time, I glanced at the phone indifferently and blocked
Coleen’s number.
Antonio didn’t come home that night. I didn’t care. I was
packing and sent my apartment details to a realtor. I wanted to sell fast, so I didn’t aim high. A buyer was found quickly.
The buyer liked the apartment. As she was about to leave, she asked me, “This is a nice apartment. Why are you selling it?”
I smiled. “Well, I’m going back to Newcastle to get married.”
She was surprised. “Congratulations.”
I watched them enter the elevator. I turned around and froze.
Antonio had just come out of his apartment and was watching me with a bag in his hand.
As I turned to face him, Antonio asked with a frown, “Get married? What are you selling?”
