Chapter 19
The servant shook his head with a bewildered expression, “I didn’t know, and I didn’t dare to look ”
Orion became even more anxious when he heard these words.
He rushed up the stairs directly, knocked on the bedroom door first, and when no one answered, he simply kicked it open and then rushed in with his wife.
Stanley remained indifferent to such a commotion.
He sat with his back to them at the table, mechanically repeating the action of writing on the paper, with a stack of already filled
notebooks beside him.
Orion and Johanna approached together to take a closer look, and both of them were astonished.
Stanley wrote sentence after sentence of “Karissa, I was wrong” on the paper.
The sentence was densely written all over a piece of paper, as if by doing so, be was venting the pain and regret deep inside his heart.
Johanna felt sorry for her son and, with a tearful voice, advised him, “Karissa has already died, even if you torture yourself like this, she won’t come back to life. Who made you do such a shameful thing…”
Orion sighed and said, “If you dare to act, you should be prepared to face the consequences. If only you had realized your mistake earlier, how did it come to this point today?”
They knew the fault was in Stanley, but after all, he was their own flesh and blood. With things having come to this point, they only hoped that he could enter the shadows as soon as possible.
Karissa
But Stanley clearly did not intend to accept reality. He lifted his bloodshot eyes and said firmly, “Mom, Dad, believe me, definitely didn’t die, she’s just hiding from me. As long as I sincerely finish writing all of this, Karissa will surely forgive me and come back to find me!”
As the words fell, he lowered his head again and continued writing these apology letters that were destined to never be seen by Karissa.
Johanna saw her son so obsessed and unenlightened, and she cried to urge her husband, “You should think of a solution, if he continues like this, he might have mental problems.”
“He now…” Orion wanted to say that his current appearance clearly indicated that he had already been affected, but considering his wife’s feelings, he changed his words and said, “Isn’t he just wanting to see Karissa one more time? Let’s go along with his wishes.”
“But the police had already reached a conclusion that Karissa had indeed fallen off the cliff and her remains were no longer there. How could they make him see Karissa then?”
“We have to give him some hope, if we really force him to accept the fact that Karissa has passed away, I’m afraid he won’t be able to go on living”
In order to cheer Stanley up, Orion took the initiative and signed him up for a family reunion program.
Stanley even proactively contacted the production team to request additional investment, with only one condition to include a segment for a public apology to him.
The program team had money to take and popularity to exploit, so naturally they couldn’t ask for more.
They immediately rescheduled their agenda to accommodate him, making him the guest of the latest episode.
On the day of the live broadcast, Stanley left directly from his home.
He took a shower and changed his clothes, but he did not deliberately conceal his haggard appearance and mental state. The person who used to care the most about his image appeared in front of the camera in his original posture.
The host had done her homework in advance. She looked at the guests in front of her, then glanced at the photos on the materials, and
could hardly connect them together.
But she quickly found an opportunity to speak up and asked a very Interesting question: “Mr. Vargas, how have you been recently?”
“Not good.”
Stanley sat dejectedly under the spotlight, for the first time fully displaying his exhaustion and pain to others. On the big screen, his vibrant photos from the past were still being projected, making him appear like a completely different person.
The audience, all seeing a successful person revealing their flaws for the first time, held their breath and focused, eagerly anticipating their next performance.
Stanley showed incredible honesty, even when the host asked about the faults in their marriage, he candidly said, “Because I cheated,”
There was a commotion in the audience stands, and the gazes directed towards him became complex, with disdain, astonishment, and
curiosity.
Stanley knew that after this episode aired, the company’s stock price would inevitably be affected, but he didn’t care at all.
He slowly lifted his head like this, looked around with a calm gaze, and then said in a hoarse voice, “I came today not only to find my wife, but also to apologize to her.”
“We have been together for many years, our relationship started from our student days. She has always taken care of me, supported me, and sacrificed a lot for my career, even at the expense of her own passion for photography. But I ignored her feelings ”
He was not unaware of how much support Karissa had provided for the company’s development, he was just constantly deceiving
himself.
It will be fine, everything will be fine. Wait until he succeeds in his career, he will definitely compensate her well.
These words had been said countless times, and he believed them himself, until she left so decisively, and he realized he had been lying
Stanley’s volice began to tremble, and after choking up, he once again faced the camera with a look of despair and spoke.
“I deeply hurt her because of my foolishness, vanity, and ridiculous machismo in the past, so I dare not ask for forgiveness, I only hope that she can give me a chance to see her once…….”
The scene of him shedding tears in front of the camera quickly sparked discussions online. Some people said that his attitude was sincere and that he truly knew he was wrong, while others said it was just a performance by a scumbag
Most people were confused.
“Wasn’t Mrs. Vargas already declared dead by the police? Why is Mr. Vargas still coming out to look for her?”
“Perhaps he couldn’t accept this reality.”
“Tsk, who let him cheat on his own? Mrs. Vargas had already died and now he’s pretending to be innocent, just putting on an act.”
