Chapter 26 A Dirty Trick
Miley and a few students in the front row quickly went up to the podium. When they saw Helen, they were shocked. Stuck in her chair, she was trying hard to get out, but she couldn’t.
“Ms. Bailey, are you okay?” Miley asked, worried.
“Do I look okay? Hurry up and get me out of here!” Helen said, sounding annoyed.
“Oh.”
Meanwhile, the back door of the classroom opened quietly. While. everyone was focused on the podium, Marvin and the others sneaked out.
on tiptoes.
Sierra glanced at the back door, a smug smile on her face.
“Ms. Bailey, we can’t get you out,” Miley and her classmates were struggling, but they couldn’t pull Helen out of the chair.
Helen was getting more and more frustrated. This chair had never caused trouble for any other teacher. Why did she have to be so unlucky?
If she didn’t get out soon, she was worried her hemorrhoids might act up. “Quick, go get the maintenance worker from the school.”
Sierra thought the classroom was too noisy, so she closed her book and walked up to the podium. She glanced at the chair that had trapped Helen and thought, “Thank goodness I noticed it. Otherwise, I’d be the one stuck here. Marvin and his friends are really mean.”
“Pass me that metal ruler.” Looking around, she saw a metal ruler on a student’s desk.
The student handed it to her right away. With a few quick moves, she used the ruler to take apart the chair, and Helen was finally free.
Helen let out a big sigh of relief and looked at Sierra. “Sierra, thank your so much. I don’t know how long I’d have been stuck if you hadn’t helped. I never knew you were so good with your hands, besides being such a good student.”
“Don’t talk just yet. Catch your breath first.” Sierra said. sounding like an adult.
“Sierra, you’re awesome!” Abbey praised from the side.
“Ms. Bailey, the maintenance worker is here.” Miley ran into the classroom with the maintenance worker. She stopped short when she saw what was happening.
“I’m fine now. Thanks for coming.” Helen said to the maintenance worker.
“Good to know. I’ll head back then. Call me if you need anything.” The maintenance worker left since Helen was okay.
Miley walked over to Helen. looking puzzled. get out? Should we take you to the infirmary?”
Ms. Bailey, how did you
“No need. I just need to sit down for a bit. Thanks to Sierra, or it would. have been embarrassing if the maintenance worker had seen me like that.” Helen said, smiling at Sierra gratefully.
“Sierra?!” Miley looked at Sierra like she couldn’t believe it. She and all the other students hadn’t been able to get Helen out. How could Sierra have done it?

“Ms. Bailey, there’s something you should know,” Miley said, glancing at Sierra and then getting serious.
“What is it?”
“Before you came in. I saw Sierra switch your chair. I think she set the whole thing up to impress you,” Miley said, looking at Sierra.
“Miley, your imagination is way too wild. Where do you even get these crazy ideas? Do you watch too many TV shows, or have you actually done something like this before?” Sierra thought Miley was a bit too sneaky. How could someone her age think like this?
“Sierra, don’t try to blame me!” Miley argued back.
“You messed with the chair. Why won’t you admit it?”
“Come on, use your brain! If it was me, would I switch it in front of you guys?” Sierra pointed out, cutting right to the chase.
Hearing Sierra’s words, everyone else realized what she meant.
“Sierra is right. Nobody would be that dumb.”
“Why would she switch her chair with Ms. Bailey’s?” Miley still wouldn’t Jet it go.
“If you want to know, go ask Marvin,” Sierra said, then walked right past Miley and headed out of the classroom.
“What does he have to do with it? Don’t you walk away! Explain yourself!” Miley shouted at Sierra’s back.
“Hey, where did Marvin and the others go?” Someone noticed that Marvin and his friends were gone.

“It was definitely him. Alright, stop yelling. I trust Sierra. She doesn’t seem like she’s lying.” Helen sighed, feeling annoyed that she got pranked by Marvin again.
After Helen left, Miley finally saw the screws scattered on the floor. She got it right away. How could she have been so dumb? It was just a few screws, but she didn’t think of it and let Sierra take the spotlight.
“Sierra, you didn’t notice it, but everyone looked shocked when you helped Ms. Bailey.
“You’re kind of like the hero of the moment now. Anyone who wanted to mess with you probably won’t anymore,” Abbey said, standing next to Sierra.
“Really? I don’t think it’s that big of a deal,” Sierra replied, glancing at Abbey
“No, it is! You just missed it.
“Miley is so mean. She always tries to point fingers at you and stir up trouble.” Abbey stuck up for Sierra.
“Alright, let’s drop it. I don’t even want to hear her name.”
“Okay, but I don’t get it. Why did you tell her to ask Marvin? What does he have to do with this?” Abbey looked at Sierra, confused.
“Didn’t you see that Marvin kept staring at me ever since I got into the classroom?” Sierra gave her a clue but not said it all out.
Abbey thought back and suddenly got it. “You mean Marvin messed with the chair?”
Sierra looked at her and didn’t say yes or no, then walked into the library.

Abbey stood there shocked for a second and hurried after her. “I can’t
believe Marvin did that!”
“Shhh, this is the library.”
“Why did you follow me?” Sierra asked, looking at Abbey.
“I… I don’t like those morning classes anyway. I’d rather chill with you in the library.” Abbey felt the classroom was too stuffy and didn’t want to be there.
“Whatever.” Sierra stopped paying attention to her and walked over to the bookshelf she wanted.
The two grabbed the books they were interested in and found a quiet table to sit at. Abbey glanced at Sierra’s book, which was about auctions. “Sierra, you actually read this kind of stuff?”
“What’s wrong with that?” Sierra looked up and saw the book Abbey was holding.
Noticing Sierra’s gaze, Abbey covered her book with her hand. “Nothing. Go ahead and read it.”
She then quietly scooted a little farther away from Sierra, trying to put some distance between them. If Sierra saw she was reading a funny comic, she’d probably get made fun of. She couldn’t believe how different they were.
Marvin and the others didn’t dare to go back to class all morning. To avoid Helen, he took the side stairs. But as soon as he stepped into the hallway, he ran into Sierra face–to–face.
“What bad luck!”
“Sierra, you’re pretty sly! You actually used someone else to do your dirty
