Chapter 28 Fabian’s Invitation
“If you don’t believe me, just wait for the call.”
Isabella, who had been listening to their conversation, walked over and asked, “Mr. Lester, did you really see our car broken down by the roadside?”
“Yeah.”
“Sierra, Mr. Lester wouldn’t lie. Let’s take his car. It’s rush hour now. If we don’t go soon, we’ll be stuck here forever.” Isabella had been want to ride in Fabian’s car, and this was her chance.
“Go ahead if you want.” Sierra still didn’t want to get in the car.
Fabian looked at Sierra outside the car and shook his head. She was really stubborn.
Just then, Sierra’s phone rang.
“Ms. Sierra, I’m truly sorry, but our car broke down by the roadside. I can’t come pick you and Ms. Isabella up now.
“But I’ve told your family, and another car should be on its way from home already.”
“How long will it take for that car to get here?” asked Sierra.
“At least forty minutes with this evening traffic.”
Sierra sighed, “Alright, we’ll go back on our own. Tell the other car not to
come.”

“Okay.”
After hanging up, Sierra glanced at Fabian. “You were right. The car did break down.”
“So, are you getting in the car or still waiting?” Fabian asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Looks like I have no choice,” Sierra said as she opened the car door and got in. Isabella quickly got into the passenger seat.
In the car, Fabian said, “I heard that on your first day at school, you punched the principal’s grandson.”
“You really know everything, huh? Do you have eyes everywhere at school?” Sierra hinted that Fabian might be watching her too closely.
“I need to keep an eye on my fiancée and know what’s going on.” Fabian acted like it was his job to protect Sierra.
“No need for that. I can handle myself. You’re busy all the time. Don’t worry about these small things.” Sierra tried to be polite yet firm.
“Your safety isn’t a small thing. It’s important,” Fabian said, looking at Sierra.
They went back and forth a bit, neither one giving in.
In the end, Sierra decided not to argue anymore. If Fabian wanted to protect her, that was his business. She didn’t need it anyway.
“Ms. Sierra, there’s an art show coming up. Would you like to go. together?” Fabian asked.
“No, I don’t have time,” Sierra refused right away. She didn’t want to go to some art show with Fabian.

“I didn’t even say when it is. How do you know you don’t have time?”
“I don’t no matter when it is.”
“Did you forget that our engagement was arranged by our grandpas? They’re waiting for us to get closer, and I’m making time for you. If you don’t want to go, you can talk to your grandpa about it,” Fabian explained. He was kind of stuck in this situation.
Sierra didn’t know what to say. She had only met her grandpa once. There was no way she could go to him with this.
“Mr. Lester, Sierra just got back to our family, and she hasn’t used to this stuff yet. If you don’t mind, I can go with her.
“You know, I go to a lot of art shows, and I can help Sierra out.
Otherwise, she might feel awkward if she doesn’t understand anything at her first show.” Isabella seemed to be helping Sierra, but in fact, she was putting her down.
“I don’t need your help. I used to help organize shows at the Giada family. I’ve done more shows than you’ve seen. If you have questions, you can ask me.” Sierra shot back.
“Sorry, I forgot about your background,” Isabella said, pretending to be sorry but actually making fun of Sierra’s background again.
Fabian ignored Isabella and turned to Sierra. “So, does that mean you’ll go to the art show with me?”
Sierra was so busy thinking about how to respond to Isabella that she almost missed what Fabian was saying. She had to reluctantly agree, “Yes.”
A little while later, Fabian’s fancy car stopped in front of the Cordova’s

place. Sierra got out first. Fabian rolled down the window and told her, “I’ll pick you up for the show.”
Without looking back. Sierra waved her hand and walked straight into the house. Isabella watched as Fabian’s car drove away.
Seeing Sierra walk in, Karla glanced at the clock. She asked, a little surprised. “Rara, why are you back so early?”
“Fabian gave us a ride,” Sierra said straight out, so Karla wouldn’t get a weird story from Isabella.
“Fabian? Did he go out of his way to pick you up?” Karla sounded pretty shocked and curious.
“No, he was probably driving by.” Sierra didn’t want to make a big deal out of it or let Karla think too much.
“Driving by? His company and your school are in totally opposite directions. What are the chances he happened to be there when you got out of school?” Karla didn’t believe Sierra. She thought Fabian went there
on purpose.
“Mom, can you stop guessing stuff? As I said, it was just a coincidence,” Sierra explained, sounding annoyed.
Just then, Isabella walked in. Karla asked her, “Isla, did you and Rara come back in Fabian’s car?”
“Yeah, what’s wrong?” Isabella didn’t know what Karla and Sierra had just talked about.
“Did Fabian go to the school on purpose to pick Rara up?” Karla wanted to get the real story from Isabella.
Isabella glanced at Sierra. “Who told you that? Mr. Lester saw our car

broken down when he was passing by, so he gave us a ride back.”
“Really?” Karla looked at Isabella, wondering if she was overthinking things.
“It’s true. Ask Sierra if you don’t believe me. Am I right, Sierra?” Isabella knew Sierra hadn’t told the whole truth earlier.
Karla turned to Sierra, who just nodded. For once, the two were telling the same story.
“Oh. I guess I was thinking too much. Go ahead and do whatever you were doing.” Karla said, heading back to the sofa.
Just then. Trevon’s voice came from behind. “What are you guys doin
“Dad, you’re home from work!” Isabella acted all sweet and walked over to Trevon, grabbing his briefcase.
“How was your day at school?” Trevon asked, looking at Isabella.
“It was good. But I heard that Sierra’s teacher got stuck in her chair, and they say Sierra swapped it out.” Isabella laughed as she said this, and she glanced over at Sierra.
“What? Sierra did that?!” Trevon’s face turned serious. It seemed like one trouble had just settled, and another was already starting.
