Chapter 5

The ward fell deadly silent. Even the air seemed to freeze.
Just then. Antonio was still lashing out at the culprit. Now, he froze, his friend’s words echoing in his mind.
“Could it be that… after all those years, it’s become a real thing, and you’ve accidentally fallen for her?”
He had fallen for Grace? No way.
He dismissed the thought quickly as if by doing so, he could totally get rid of the strange feeling in the pit of his stomach.
Juliet was the one he had always loved. As for Grace? Grace was just his tool for revenge.
However, when he saw those punks getting fresh with her, he was so furious that he wanted to kill them. Why would he feel that way if he didn’t have feelings for her?
He wasn’t even this impulsive when someone tried to hit on Juliet.
He said. “Are you kidding?”
Hearing his words, the others said nothing. They exchanged glances, breathing a sigh of relief.
One of them patted Antonio’s shoulder and said in a light tone, “Gee, man, what a relief. We really thought you had feelings for her. It’s just a revenge game. Don’t get real. If Juliet knows, she’s gonna be heartbroken.”
Antonio said nothing at once. He tried his best to suppress the strange. feeling that kept haunting him and said after a few seconds, “I’ll never fall for Grace.”
Only then did his friends feel totally relieved. They grinned and said, “Enough. She’s probably about to wake up soon. We’re off.”
After they left, Antonio walked to the bedside slowly and lowered his head to look at Grace, who was still unconscious.
Her face was pale, and she frowned slightly, which was probably because she was having a bad dream.
Before he realized it, he raised his hand to stroke her cheek. Yet, the second his finger touched her face, he withdrew it at once as if being burnt.
Then he turned to the window, lit a cigarette, and took a deep drag, trying to numb his chaotic thoughts with nicotine.
When Grace woke up, she saw no one but Antonio in the ward.
He was sitting on the edge of the bed with a glass of water in his hand. Meeting her eyes, he asked in a low voice, “How are you feeling? Still uncomfortable?”
Grace didn’t answer. She tilted her head and averted his
gaze.
For the next few days, he stayed in the hospital to look after her.
Occasionally, he’d step outside to take calls, and there was always a trace. of imperceptible tenderness in his eyes every time he went back.
Grace figured he was probably out there coaxing Juliet..
As she tried to recall, she realized he had always been doing this. He’d

step outside to take calls, saying something had come up.
She had never doubted it. Yet, now, she finally realized it was Juliet he had been talking to.
The doctor came to change her dressing.
She looked up and glanced at him inadvertently and was surprised to notice he was quite handsome and young.
Stunned, she asked softly, “You aren’t my attending doctor, right?”
He smiled and said in a gentle tone, “That’s my teacher. I’m an intern here. He’s on rounds today, so I’m here to change your dressing.”
She nodded, saying nothing.
He started to change the dressing for her carefully. For some reason, his face was slightly flushed.
As he was about to push the door to leave, he hesitated and asked her, “Could I… have your number?”
She was stunned. Before she could respond, Antonio pushed the door to
enter.
He glanced at the doctor coldly and said, his voice carrying a trace of warning, “She has a boyfriend. Can’t you tell? You actually tried to hit on a patient. It seems you don’t want your internship anymore.”
