Chapter 6
Inside the helicopter, Karl’s gaze was locked on me, course it felt like it could burn through my skin
We’d never gotten along, not even as kids. After this humiliating spectacle, he probably wanted to savor the moment and mock me
“Alright, alright, stop staring Go ahead and laugh. I was wrong about him, okay?”
I muttered under my breath, but the man remained silent, not reacting at all.
After what felt like an eternity of silence, he suddenly reached out and gently touched my wounds:
“Does it hurt?”
The warmth of his fingertips spread across my skin, and for a brief moment, I was stunned. I blinked a few times before dryly asking:
“Karl Gibson, are you out of your mind?”
To be fair, when I insisted on marrying Aaron, Karl had been the first–and loudest objection, and that had caused quite a rift between
Yet even then, he’d made me one promise:
Wherever you are. Whenever you need me. I’ll come.
Now, at my sharp tone, Karl seemed slightly hurt. His eyes flickered with an emotion I couldn’t quite read.
“I must’ve lost my mind, huh Yeah, maybe I did,” he admitted quietly. “Maybe I’m insane for worrying this much. For rushing here like an idiot the second I saw you hurt. For never being able to forget you.”
The atmosphere fell into an awkward silence. After a long pause, Karl spoke softly, his voice almost a whisper:
I’m in love with you.”
Those words hit me like a bomb My brain froze for a moment, and my mind scrambled to recall any past memories.
Since the day my parents had brought Karl into our family, we were always at odds. I would always push the food I didn’t like mushrooms or spinach–into his plate at dinner.
Back them, he was so thin, so quiet, and always on the receiving end of my teasing. Could it be that I had affected him that much?
Seeing that I hadn’t said anything, Karl seemed to retreat a little, his head dropping slightly as he leaned in closer.

okay?”
I’d never seen him at this humble before, and for a moment, I was lost in a daze
Only when I felt is warmth close to me did I realize my face was burning

By the time their water ran out, Wendy snapped. With only one bottle left, Wendy finally couldn’t hold back. She shoved Aaron aside and snatched the bottle of water,
Aaron was caught off guard and stumbled into the sand. One of the bodyguards immediately stepped in to restrain Wendy.
As Aaron slowly got back to his feet, Wendy went wild, screaming, “it’s all Jennifer’s fault! If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t be stuck in this hell! I’ve never been so humiliated in my life!”
“Let me go! I didn’t do anything wrong! Why should I have to walk through the desert like this?!”
Aaron didn’t get angry, though. Instead, he chuckled darkly:
“You think I don’t know what you’ve done?My team dug up everything. “He stepped closer. “You faked those hiking videos. And those snakes? Lordered harmless ones just to scare Jennifer. You swapped in venomous ones,
“Now, this is all your mess to clean up!”
At this, Wendy’s face went pale, her body going limp as she collapsed to the ground. The bodyguards had to drag her along, and the sharp pins from the tacks in the sand continued to scratch at her legs. No matter how much she struggled or screamed, it was futile.
When they finally stumbled from the desert a day later, Wendy was unconscious, dragged between guards. Her cracked lips and filthy Jscars made her look completely disheveled.
After they made it out, Aaron, looking completely drained, turned to the livestream camera and spoke hoarsely
“Jennifer, I’ve walked out of the desert like you asked… can you, can you forgive me..
Before he could finish his sentence, he collapsed, too weak to stay standing
