Chapter 4
“You hurt her, didn’t you? Who the hell gave you the right? I said I’d pay, didn’t I?”
Everyone in the house was stunned, as if someone had pressed pause. No one dared to move, watching Antony with wide eyes as his own filled with a chilling intent. The veins in his neck pulsed visibly. After several deep breaths, he managed to calm himself a little, wiping a hand over his face: “How do I pay? How do I get her back?“–
Allen glanced down at the woman sleeping in his arms. He suddenly remembered her pouty expression when she mentioned she didn’t have the money for ransom. A small smile tugged at the corners of his lips: “Just send five million to her account.”
It wasn’t until the next morning that I found out I’d been “ransomed.”
Allen stood by the bed, leisurely fastening his shirt cuffs. His expression was calm as he naturally handed me my fully charged phone: “They brought it back last night, it’s fixed now. While you were asleep, I took a call from your ex. Managed to get you five million in spending money.”
My eyes widened in shock as I took the phone, staring blankly at the over a hundred missed calls on the screen. They were all from Antony?
Allen noticed the number as well, raising an eyebrow: “Maybe I’m just a great conversationalist. He seemed eager for more.”
This is what you call eager for more?
Allen picked up his suit jacket, draping it over his arm. His shirt and trousers highlighted his broad shoulders and narrow waist, making my cheeks flush with heat. Memories of the past few days, filled with indulgence and intimacy, flashed through my mind.
Allen caught my reaction, smiling as he leaned down to plant a gentle kiss on my forehead: “Be good, don’t tempt me. Or I might not be able to leave.”
My face turned crimson instantly. Allen gently ruffled my hair, raising an eyebrow casually: “Say hi to the ex for
me.”
Oh, he was a big shot, alright. So generous.
Then, with a shadowed grin, he added: “If you two dare to rekindle the past, I’ll make sure you regret it big time” Those three kidnappers had been dealt with. But since they were under Allen’s command, things could get tricky if it got messy. So, it wasn’t convenient for him to drop me off. I took a cab back on my own. Instead of going to my place, I headed to Antony’s mom’s house first. With my parents‘ work taking them away most of the time, I was practically raised alongside Antony by Mrs. Zade. “Jenny, you’re back now, it’s alright,” Mrs. Zade said, tears in her eyes, holding my hand with guilt. Antony sat silently on the sofa opposite, not uttering a single word. From the moment I entered, his bloodshot eyes had been fixed on me, filled with a dark intensity that was unsettling.
Mrs. Zade called his name twice to no response, eventually giving up and tearfully apologizing to me: “Jenny, I’m so sorry, it’s all my fault for not thinking it through. I just wanted to push Antony into marrying you quickly. goodness they only wanted money. If
I never thought it would lead to you being targeted by kidnappers. Thank
something had happened to you, how could I face your parents.”
The sofa creaked loudly. Antony, silent until now, seemed triggered by something in her words. He shot up from the sofa, grabbing my arm and dragging me upstairs. His hand was cold, like ice. I struggled against his grip, but it was no use: “Antony, let go of me!” Antony ignored all the gasps, pulling me up to the second floor and forcing me into a guest room bathroom.
He locked the door behind us, voice icy but his fingers trembling slightly:
