Chapter 8
With Jackson and me watching, Ashley deliberately put the call on speaker:[]
“Dad, you won’t believe this. I just caught someone pretending to be you. His daughter was bullying Mom and me.“[]
The person on the other end immediately became agitated:[]
“What? Someone dared to bully my wife and daughter? They must be tired of living! Where are you? I’ll come teach them a lesson!”
Hearing her “dad” say this, Ashley deliberately rolled her eyes at me and raised her voice:[]
“Great, hurry over! We’re at the townhouse you bought me. The impostor even rented a designer suit and luxury car, though I’ve already smashed it. Come quickly so we can expose him properly.“[] I’ve
With that, Ashley hung up.[]
For some reason, the voice sounded familiar to me.[]
Jackson also looked thoughtful, apparently sharing my confusion.[]
Several onlookers were jeering:
“The real owner is coming now. Let’s see how this fake rich guy keeps up his act.“[]
“Yeah, I’m curious though–why does he look so much like Mr. Reed? I’ve seen the real Jackson Reed in news interviews, and this impostor looks identical.“[]
“I noticed that too! They’re exactly alike. If it weren’t for close family members, anyone could be fooled.“[]
Hearing this, Ashley looked smug:[]
“Here’s something you don’t know: rich people always have body doubles, especially someone like my dad, Chicago’s wealthiest man.“]
“Dad told me being rich is dangerous and leaves little time for family. So he found several people with similar builds, trained them, and gave them human skin masks to attend meetings and work on his behalf. That way, he has time to spend with Mom and me.”
“This man is probably one of Dad’s doubles who, after playing the role too long, started believing he’s the real thing.“]
The students were shocked:[]
“Human skin masks? Your dad is incredible, Ashley, coming up with such disguise methods.“[]
“Expected of Chicago’s richest man–I’m learning something new today.”
“But this body double is way out of line. Or maybe after pretending for so long, he’s developed delusions. I can’t wait to see the real Mr. Reed put him in his place.”
Chapter 8
Everyone was waiting to see my family humiliated, but I think I’d figured out what was happening.[]
I wasn’t completely certain, though, so I needed confirmation.]]
Soon, a Maybach pulled up.
The car slowly stopped beside the townhouse, and a man wearing a tailored suit just like Jackson’s stepped out.[]
The terrifying part? He had a face identical to my dad’s.[]
Not only was I shocked–Jackson was equally stunned.[]
The man got out of the car and rushed straight to Ashley, not even noticing Jackson and me nearby.[]
He looked Ashley up and down with concern:[]
“Ashley, didn’t you say someone was bullying you and your mom? Where are they? I’ll handle this!“]
Hearing this, Ashley smugly pointed at Jackson and me:]
“Dad, that’s the man who was pretending to be you.”

“And that girl next to him clairns to be the Reed heiress–she’s the one who bullied Mom and me.‘
How could she say that with a straight face? She and her mother were both tall and strongly built they could knock out a pig with one punch. My mom and I were slim and delicate. How could we possibly bully them?
But the moment Ashley’s “dad” turned and saw Jackson and me, his expression changed instantly.[]
