Chapter 3
“Today, Jack said he’s officially getting engaged to me!” Evelynn announced proudly, as her group of friends grabbed my hair and began dragging me out of the cram school. []
Before leaving, she raised her voice and addressed the teachers:
“Any damages here today? Just send the bill to the Torres Group’s finance department and say Jack’s wife told you to.” []
At the mention of the Torres Group, the cram school owner’s expression changed. With a sycophantic smile, he quickly assured her, “Oh, Mrs. Torres! Don’t worry, we won’t report anything to the police.” []
Evelynn, brimming with satisfaction, continued to drag my nearly lifeless body out of the classroom. []

Faced with the judgmental stares of passersby, Evelynn placed her hands on her hips and shouted, “What’s it to you? I’m teaching a mistress a lesson!” [
One onlooker couldn’t take it anymore and stepped forward to intervene.

“Miss, even if she really is a mistress, you can’t beat her until her face is covered in blood and tear up all her clothes.” []
“Find something to cover her with. Exposing her like this–everyone has some dignity.”
“And what you’re doing is illegal.” [
Evelynn ignored the woman entirely, smirking coldly as she snapped back sarcastically: []
“Oh, look at you, rushing to defend this tramp. What’s the matter? Are you just like her, a mistress yourself?” |
“And don’t forget, I’m rich. My husband is the chairman of the Torres Group. Even if I kill someone, I can afford to pay for it.” []
The bystander stared at Evelynn in disbelief, shocked that someone who appeared so gentle could speak with such venom. []
In the end, I was shoved into a car and driven to the hotel lobby where the engagement banquet was being held. Both families had invited many guests, with dozens of tables set up. The moment Evelynn dragged me in, all eyes turned toward me. []
“Evelynn, is this the mistress your friend mentioned?” []
Evelynn’s parents stood up, their gazes filled with hatred. Evelynn nodded confidently. []
“Yes, it’s her. The one from the photo on my friend’s Instagram last night. I wouldn’t mistake her.” []
Hearing Evelynn’s confirmation, her mother, Lucy, stormed toward me and yanked my hair, slapping me repeatedly. [
“You slut! How dare you steal my daughter’s man?” }
“I’ll kill you today!” []
The repeated blows left me too weak to even speak. I started to wonder if this was where I’d die. []

“Kill her!”
“No one else is marrying into the Torres family but my daughter!” [
Lucy rallied more of her relatives, who surrounded me once again. Finally, Lucy turned to Evelynn and said, “Bring me the carving knife. I’m going to ruin her face.” I
“Let’s see how she seduces anyone after this!” |
Evelynn handed the knife to Lucy. Everyone watched as Lucy loomed over me, my body wracked with unbearable pain.
With a sinister glare, Lucy raised the knife and slashed it across my face.
“Ahhh!”
A guttural scream tore from my throat as the searing pain jolted my half–unconscious mind awake. [

At that moment, Evelynn’s phone rang. She answered with a triumphant smile and put it on speaker.
My father, Jack’s, voice came through the line.
“Evelynn, I’m almost there. What’s going on? Why is it so noisy?” []
Evelynn sneered and replied, “Oh, I’m just teaching a mistress a lesson!” ||
Jack paused, stunned. I
“A mistress?”
