Chapter 13
Watching Nicole being wheeled into the operating ro
room, seeing the door slowly close and the red light outside the room flicker on, Abigail felt all her hope shatter in an instant. It was as if her entire world collapsed before her eyes.
She felt drained as if all strength had been sucked out of her. She murmured, “Why?”
Her voice was faint, and Eric seemed not to hear her clearly. “What?”
“I asked, why?” Abigail shouted, her emotions rising “Why are you doing this to me? Eric, what did I ever do to deserve this from you?
“Even if you suspect 1 drugged you, I didn’t force you to sleep with me, right? I didn’t force you to marry me, either. You said you didn’t like your wife in the spotlight, so I gave up my career to stay home, taking care of the household and coolding your meals.
“I molded myself into someone else just to please you. I accepted all your mockery, neglect, and insults, even though I knew you were involved with Nicole. I still made excuses for you, protecting your image.
Despite her emotional outburst, Eric remained expressionless.
She felt like a fool, performing a one–woman show that no one cared to watch.
At that moment, a profound, overwhelming fatigue washed over her. She stared at him, the light in her eyes slowly dimening
“You won, Eric. I admit defeat! Falling for you, without knowing better, is the biggest regret of my life!”
She bit her lip, her words drenched in sorrow. “I wish I had never met you!”
Hearing this, Eric finally reacted, his gaze darkening, chillingly so. “What did you say?”
He grabbed her chin with one hand, but as he did, he saw the tears slide down her check
There was hatred in Abigail’s eyes, icy and sharp–she had never looked at him like that before.
Frowning deeply, he was about to speak, but she shoved him away.
“Get lost! Just looking at you disgusts me she growled, her eyes reddening Without saying another word, she turned and left
He stood still, stunned.
What had she just said? She felt disgusted just looking at him?
He was so angry that he almost burst out laughing, his expression becoming even colder.
How dare she say that? He must have spoiled her too much!
His gaze hardened as he started moving in the direction Abigail had gone, but he was suddenly interrupted by a nurse calling from behind.
Mr. Gomez, an agreement here requires your signature…”
Abigail stumbled down the corridor, looking disheveled and broken. She collided with someone as she walked
“Abigal?” Ryan steadied her, surprised. “What are you doing here? What happened?”
She looked pale, her eyes swollen, and her hair a mess. It was as if she had just suffered a heavy blow.
She looked up and saw him, but as she was about to speak, her vision suddenly went dark, and she fainted.
“Abigail!” Panicked, he quickly caught her and carried her away,
When Abigail woke up, she found she couldn’t see. In a penic, she reached out in front of her, trying to find something.
What happened? Had she gone blind?
“Abigail!” Ryan immediately took her hand, sensing her distress, and reassured her, “Don’t worry. It’s not permanent. You’re just temporarily blind from the shock. We’ve given you some medication. Your sight will return in a couple of days.”
Upon hearing this, Abigall started to calm down, though she loolood utterly defeated
Seeing her like this pained him deeply.
While she was unconscious, he had someone investigate, and he discovered what had happened.
Eric had given Nicole the cornes donated to Abigall. He had neglected his wife and instead chosen to help that mistress
Suppressing his anger, Ryan comforted her. “Abigail, don’t be upset. You’ll get the comes back. Trust me. I won’t let you go blind.”
Abigail stayed silent.
The truth was, they both knew how scarce comes were
