Chapter 48
Abigail knew that Lacy disliked her deeply, so when she was still in the country, she never tried to get close, fully aware of her place.
But now, why had Lucy suddenly returned?
Lisey walked up to Abigail, scrutinizing her. Suddenly, she grabbed her chin, forcing her to lift her head.
Nancy and Peter were startled and shouted in unison, “Madam Gomex!”
reyes.”
“Are you afraid I’ll eat her up? Why are you all so protective of her? Lucy sneered, releasing her grip. “I just wanted to take a look at her a
Peter secretly breathed a sigh of relief, hoping Eric would retum s
“I’ve never flod you,” Lucy said coldly, staring at Abigail. “Eric is a brilliant young man with a bright future, but he had to marry you, a down–and- heiress with a tarnished reputation and someone everyone condemns.
“You naled my son for your own selfish reasons. How could I ever like you?
Abigail clenched her fists and calmly replied, “I’ve explained many times before–I didn’t drug Eric.”
“Who else could it have been if not you? Don’t try to deny it So what if you’ve got what you wanted? You’re still a blind woman! If you ask me, this is your retribution”
“Watch your words!” Abigail suddenly said coldly. “My father was an upright may, he was wrongfully accused!”
*Upright?” Lucy scotted. “You dare use that word?!
She continued, “Since we’re being direct, let’s get to the point–divorce Eric. You’ve already wasted three years of his life!
“As long as you’re here, people will always talk about him, and you’ve damaged his reputation. If you agree to divorce him now, I’ll compensate you and arrange for your eyes to be treated.”
Peter panicked and quicldy interrupted, “Madam Gomez…‘
“Do you think it’s your place to interrupt me when I’m speaking” Locy glared at him coldly.
He looked troubled but said nothing
“Fine. I’ll sign the divorce papers right now if you can let me leave this place,” Abigall said directly.
Lucy looked at her suspiciously. “Are you serious?”
“You think I want to stay with Eric?” Abigail sneered. “I’ve already signed the papers and asked for a divorce. It’s he who refuses to divorce and has kept me imprisoned here!”
“Impossible!” Lury said without thinking “Eric doesn’t want to divorce you? You must be imagining things
“None of that matters. What matters is that I want to leave right now. Do you have the authority to let me go?” Abigail said coldly.
“I’m his mother–how could I not have the authority? Lucy laughed bitterly. “Since you want to leave so badly, I’ll grant your wish. Peter, let her go.”
Peter was frantic, “Mrs. Gomez, Mr. Gomez has specifically instructed that Mrs. Gomez cannot leave?”
“Does my word no longer carry any weight?” Her voice grew cold.
Abigail just wanted to leave quickly. She turned to Nancy and said, “Nancy, can you talor the way ?”
Nancy hesitated. “L”
“Nancy, take Abigail back to her room,” Eric said as he walked over, his voice calm and firm.
Peter breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing him retum, Nancy also relaxed and Immediately started to take Abigall back
“Wait!” Lucy called out, turning to face Eric. Her voice was cold. “What’s this supposed to mean? What are you thinking? She’s blind now, and you still want to keep her around?”
“Mind your language,” Eric said indifferently, glancing at her.
“Mind my language?” She laughed bitterly. “You’re telling me to mind my language? You’ve always wanted to divorce her, haven’t you? Here’s your perfect chance. Why not take it?”
