Chapter 52
Abigail laughed. “That’s right. This place is packed, and I can’t see. So, why did you bring me here, Mr. Gomez? Is it on purpose?”
The furrow in Eric’s brow deepened.
Indeed, that was an oversight on his part. He should have made time to bring her outside for some time alone, but he had been a bit busy lately.
Nevertheless, since they were already here, he couldn’t just let her go home.
“Stay with me.” He took Abigail’s hand and placed it on his arm.
Nicole stood to the side, completely ignored by the two. Bitterness filled her eyes.
She trailed after them, looking like their maid. As she watched Eric introduce Abigail to others as his wife, she gnashed her teeth in jealousy.
Everyone was shocked that Eric’s wife was blind. At that, Eric simply explained that her eyes were diseased and would recover after surgery.
Aside from being astounded, they praised Eric for his profound devotion to his wife..
Their praises amused Abigail. To her, those words didn’t fit Eric at all.
He was devoted. However, his devotion was to his dear Nicole, not to her.
Soon, the fact that Eric’s wife was blind became known throughout the banquet.
While Ryan was chatting absent–mindedly with someone beside him, he heard two women talking about Eric’s wife.
“Really? She’s actually blind?”
“It’s true. I just saw her. Her eyes were unfocused. But Mr. Gomez said that her eyes were diseased and would recover after surgery.”
“I had no idea his wife is blind. I wonder why he’s so loyal to her.”
“Loyal? You’re too naive. See that secretary beside him? I heard that…”
“Mr. Gomez, what’s wrong?” Someone noticed that Ryan was distracted.
Ryan pulled back his attention and said with a smile, “Sorry. I might have had too much to drink. My head’s a bit dizzy and groggy. I’ll go sober up.” “What about the collaboration I just mentioned?”
Ryan smiled. “I’ll think it over.”
After he finally managed to shake off the obstinate man, Ryan searched the crowd for Abigail’s silhouette.
Based on the conversation between the two women, he was positive they were talking about Abigail.
He couldn’t believe Eric had brought her to this kind of event. What was Eric even thinking? A blind person would feel most vulnerable in this situation. Before long, Ryan found Abigail. She was dressed in a green gown. Vibrant and striking, it suited her very well.
Eric was beside her. Ryan could see her anxiety, discomfort, and anger.
His eyes turned somber. He wanted to go straight to Abigail and comfort her. Still, since Eric was with her, rushing over would only result in conflict. “Eric, Mr. Morris is over there. Should we head over and say hi?” Nicole reminded Eric in a lowered voice.
Eric nodded. Just when he was about to head over with Abigail, Nicole stopped him.
“Eric, it’d be inconvenient for you to bring Ms. Reed along. Besides, she seems tired. How about I take her someplace to sit down and rest?” Nicole suggested.
After glancing at Abigail, Eric noticed her tense expression. She did appear exhausted, so he agreed.
