Chapter 54
“Ryan, I don’t want to drag you into this. If Eric knows you took me away, he’ll surely go after you,” Abigail said worriedly, pulling Ryan back.
“It’s alright. I’m not afraid of him.” Ryan grasped her hand. “Now’s a great chance to leave. If you don’t take it, you won’t get another. Don’t worry. I can handle him. Please do as I say.”
With a solemn look, Ryan scooped Abigail up. “Sorry. It’s faster this way.”
Abigail placed her arm around Ryan’s neck and sighed, not knowing what to say.
In truth, she hoped that this opportunity would allow her to leave. However, she feared Eric would be difficult to deal with.
Before long, Ryan arrived at the underground parking lot with Abigail in his arms. To his surprise, Eric appeared ahead of him. He stopped.
With a half–smile, Eric said, “Where are you taking my wife? Are you ignoring my previous warnings?”
“Eric?” Shocked, Abigail quickly said, “Ryan, put me down now!”
Ryan had no choice but to put her down.
Abigail swiftly shielded Ryan behind her and told Eric, “This has nothing to do with him. I begged him to take me away because I’ve had enough of you.” Eric’s expression became even more grim. There seemed to be a storm brewing in his eyes.
“Do you know that if you defend him now, he’ll die even sooner?”
Abigail was stunned. Then, she heard frenzied footsteps. She knew lots of people were coming. They were probably Eric’s bodyguards.
She reached out frantically to grab Ryan’s hand. “Ryan! Ryan!”
However, a firm hand yanked her away.
“Come over here.” Trapping her in his arms, Eric spat out through gritted teeth, “I can’t believe your first reaction is to protect another man. You care about him that much, huh? Do you even know who he is?”
Abigail was shaken up and thrashing about, not listening to him at all.
“Ryan! What did you do to Ryan? Ryan, are you okay?”
“I–Mmph!” Ryan grunted, having taken a punch from a bodyguard.
He was surrounded by Eric’s bodyguards. Though he was a good fighter, he was outnumbered. Soon, the bodyguards held him down.
With a wry chuckle, Eric opened the car door, shoved Abigail inside, and ambled over to Ryan.
There was hatred and defiance in Ryan’s eyes. He seemed frustrated.
Eric looked down at him and sneered, “Are you frustrated? In your current state, what can you possibly do to defeat me? You’re nothing but a bastard. Do you really think you can take everything I have from me?
“You’re way in over your head. Going against me won’t end well for you. You’ve only made a move on Abigail because she’s my wife. Are you that intrigued by what’s mine?”
“I never thought of Abby as your wife,” Ryan said coldly. “Ask yourself, have you ever treated her as one? Have you forgotten how you treated her all these years? If you don’t cherish her, someone else will.”
Eric’s expression shifted, and he kicked Ryan in the chest, sending him flying.
“Even if I don’t cherish her, you won’t get the chance to do so either. Who do you think you are?”
