Chapter 56
“You were acting so tough just now. Why are you getting scared now, hm?” With a smirk, Eric pinned Abigail down. “Where’s your haughtiness now?”
“Let me go!” Abigail screamed, her eyes reddened. “Am I your plaything?”
Eric froze.
Abigail’s tears rolled down her cheek and fell onto the back of Eric’s hand. He felt as if it had burned him and instinctively withdrew his hand.
The weight on Abigail’s body had alleviated, but her tears started flowing even more vigorously. She had hardly ever cried like that before.
Eric frowned. “Stop crying. You angered me first, didn’t you?”
Abigail ignored him and kept crying.
Feeling frustrated, Eric tugged at his tie. For some reason, her cries pierced his heart. It felt as if something was stuck in his chest.
“Fine. Cry as much as you like.”
At that, he turned and left. His mood had been ruined.
As soon as he left the room, Peter approached him worriedly. “Mr. Gomez, what happened to Mrs. Gomez?”
“Tell a housekeeper to check up on her,” Eric said coldly.
Peter quickly nodded. “Okay.”
Eric entered the study. After a while, he finally calmed down, but his chest still felt awfully tight.
He took out a cigarette and lit it before taking a long drag. Only then did he feel his emotions temporarily soothed.
Nowadays, his emotions were easily stirred up by Abigail. That had never happened before. The feeling of not being under control displeased him. He liked having complete control over everything.
The suitable corneas were yet to be found. Once Abigail’s eyes recovered, he planned to divorce her and let her go.
He felt frustrated. However, he reasoned that it was solely due to his guilt toward her. It was simply because he had taken the corneas meant for her, making her blind.
It was his fault, so he should take responsibility.
Eric ruminated in the study the entire night, littering the floor with cigarette ends. When he finally gathered himself, it was nearly dawn.
Rubbing his temples, he stood up and walked out of the study.
Peter said worriedly, “Mr. Gomez, you didn’t sleep all night. Why don’t you get some sleep in your bedroom?”
“I’m alright.” Eric suddenly remembered something and paused. “How is she doing?”
Peter answered, “Mrs. Gomez’s fine. After she calmed down, she fell asleep. She hasn’t woken up yet.”
Eric nodded and didn’t say anything else.
When Nicole last saw Lucy, she asked for Lucy’s contact information. She told Lucy an exaggerated account of last night’s events.
“Ms. Reed is unbecoming. She was almost led away by a man. Mr. Gomez was furious and fought him.”
Lucy said angrily, “I knew she was a bitch. Even though she lost her sight, she still won’t settle down. I shouldn’t have let Eric marry her back then!”
“It can’t be helped. Mr. Gomez is such a responsible man. Besides, Ms. Reed is wily. He’s completely under her spell,” Nicole said pointedly.
Lucy grew more certain that Abigail shouldn’t stay with Eric any longer. She must get rid of Abigail as soon as possible.
A housekeeper suddenly walked in. “Mrs. Gomez, Mr. Gomez’s back.”
“He’s back?” Lucy hurriedly stood up and walked outside. There, she saw Chanse getting out of the car.
“You’re finally back. If you’ve taken any longer, your son would have raised hell,” she said.
“What did Eric do this time?” Chanse asked.
