Chapter 68
When Eric returned with Abigail, Miranda piped up. “You’re finally here, Abigail. Sally said you hit her. Can you explain what happened? If it’s just a misunderstanding, you should say it now.”
Sally exclaimed, “How can it be a misunderstanding? She obviously despises me, and she wanted to hit me for real! Hey, do you think you can act recklessly just because you have Eric backing you?”
“Sally!” A solemn Miranda roared, “Why are you acting like this? Abigail has yet to speak a word. Have some manners, will you?”
In the past, Abigail would endure this humiliation for the sake of family harmony, but she was done with tolerating it.
To twist the truth to this extent–she truly had to hand it to Charles and Miranda for raising such a daughter.
“You said I have blood on my hands, called my dad a murderer, and insinuated I lost my sight because I deserved my punishment.” Abigail coldly questioned, “Shouldn’t I hit you for that?”
Immediately, everyone’s faces in the room changed. Lucy looked at Miranda and Sally with a smug, gloating expression, thinking, “At last, my daughter- in–law did something useful for once.”
“You’re lying!” Sally angrily refuted, “I’ve never said something like that! Come on, Abigail–you’re an adult! How could you fabricate lies to slander me?
With a cold look, Eric questioned her, “You said she’s lying. Well, care to explain in detail what exactly happened since you took her to the bathroom and how things escalated? She ought to hit you for a reason, right?”
“She… She….” Sally stuttered, claiming, “I–I took her to the bathroom and didn’t see the floor well, causing her to nearly trip. She got mad, so she hit me! That’s all!”
No adult in the room would be fooled by such a childish and immature lie concocted by someone so inexperienced.
Even Miranda’s expression shifted as she glared at her daughter. “What’s up with you, Sally? Be honest! Is this really the reason?”
Sally shrunk her neck timidly, seemingly realizing her lie had been exposed, and dared not speak another word.
“What an awful liar.” Eric wore a cold smile. “Did you blatantly slander her because she’s blind?”
At that point, Miranda apologized on her daughter’s behalf. “Eric, Sally didn’t mean it. She’s always been quite petulant, but she isn’t a mean–spirited kid at heart! There must be a misunderstanding-”
“Look at her! Does she still look like a kid to you?” Derrick roared, “You can’t even educate your child properly. Now, look what she’s done! I don’t know how you guys raised a child so devilish at such a young age!”
His glare at Charles and Miranda couldn’t be any colder. They quickly denied, “No, Dad, we’ve never taught her to say something like that! We didn’t!” Meanwhile, Lucy was having the time of her life watching the spectacle, chiming in. “Charles, Miranda, I know you two are always busy at work, but you can’t overlook educating your child.
“If she can openly slander a family member now, who knows what other humiliating things she can do to other people in the future? It’s best to discipline her as soon as possible.”
Miranda’s face contorted with regret. “I’m sorry, Derrick. This is my fault for not keeping Sally in check. I’ll teach her a lesson once we’re horne.”
She then shot Sally a glare. “What are you standing there for? Apologize to Abigail!”
By then, Sally was already gripped with fear. She dared not act smugly anymore and hurriedly apologized. “I’m sorry, Abigail. I–I didn’t mean to… I was just scared because you hit me…”
“Let me be clear–I hit you because you humiliated me; not the other way around.”
