Ch pter 70
“Jac!” Abigail held her hand too.
“Yup, it’s me,” Jacinta replied, pulling her to the side to sit. “I’m glad you remembered our meeting. I almost left because I thought you’d forgotten.”
“I’m sorry. You know how hard it is for me to go out now,” Abigail said apologetically.
Jacinta berated, “Eric is a real bitch. It’s illegal for him to restrict your personal freedom. My brother is a lawyer; do you want him to make a case for you? You’ll definitely win if you file for divorce!”
However, Abigail shook her head. “We’ll see sometime later.”
She still remembered vividly how Eric threatened to make Jacinta lose her job. Before she was certain, she didn’t want to involve her or her brother. “Anything on the drug? Are there issues with it?” she inquired.
Jacinta’s expression turned solemn at that question. “There is something wrong with it! You should never consume it! That drug contains a banned ingredient. If taken in large amounts, it will slowly take your life!”
“What?” Abigail was shocked.
That sounded like the medicine Connor had developed. Back then, he was sentenced because the medicine took many lives.
“Is that true? Is that seriously true?” Abigail was agitated, grabbing onto Jacinta’s hand.
“It is. I did the test myself!”
“Then, do you see any similarities with the medicine my dad developed?”
Jacinta was taken aback for a moment. “I didn’t think of that, but I don’t have the ingredient data for the medicine your father developed. If I had it, it’d be easier to compare.
“However, as it stands, they seem very similar. Eric’s dad definitely has bad intentions. He couldn’t have been unaware that the drug was problematic, so why would he do this to you? What exactly did you do to provoke him?”
Jacinta was deeply worried about her safety. “It’s dangerous for you to stay in that family. Abby, how about you just leave? I’ll take you somewhere.”
However, Abigail refused. “No, I’m staying.”
The more questions there were, the more she had to stay to determine Chanse’s intentions. Was Eric aware of his father’s actions?
“Probably not,” she thought.
“Why not? What if he’s dead set on killing you?” Jacinta was anxious.
“No, he won’t. At least not for now.” Abigail appeared much calmer. “If this banned ingredient is the same as the one in the medicine my father made, then what happened to my father might be connected to Chanse.
“I need to stay and get to the bottom of things.”
“But-”
“Jac, I know you’re worried about me, but I’ll be fine. You can rest assured because I’ll protect myself.”
By then, Peter had waited for some time outside. He knocked on the door, asking, “Mrs. Gomez, are you done?”
Why did they have to shut the door every time she saw the doctor? It was so mysterious, and each visit took so long. He couldn’t help but suspect that something was off with the doctor.
Right then, the door opened, revealing Abigail. Without any emotion on her face, she said, “Let’s go.”
Peter took a peek inside the office and found no anomalies.
