Chapter 82

Abigail was admitted to the hospital a day earlier and had undergone all the necessary examinations.
The high–schooler had been removed from the ward, and the body was moved into the operation room in advance. When the nurse came into the ward to move Abigail to the operating room, the latter felt a little nervous.
Eric noticed it and held Abigail’s hand tightly, comforting her, “Don’t worry. Everything’s going to be fine. I’ll be waiting for you outside.”
She nodded. “Alright.”
After Abigail was transferred into the operation room, he just waited outside the room. As time slowly passed, he suddenly felt a little uneasy. He wondered what was going on inside the room and whether the operation was going smoothly.
Suddenly, Eric’s phone rang. When he noticed it was an unknown number calling him, he rejected the call right away. However, the number called him again. After thinking about it, Eric decided to answer it.
“Is this Mr. Eric Gomez?” Eric couldn’t recognize the man’s voice from the other end of the call at all.
“Yes,” he answered calmly. “Who’s this?”
“This is the police! There was an accident on St. Church Street, and a woman was hit by a car. She’s currently at Central Hospital, and she said she didn’t have any other friends or relatives around here. Can you please come here right now?”
Central Hospital was right opposite where Eric and Abigail were at that moment. It was also where Jacinta was working.
Eric glanced at the operating room’s sign, and it was still brightly lit.
“I’m a bit occupied right now. Can I head there later?”
“No, she needs to undergo the operation right now. So, you have to get over here and sign the papers! Please be here as soon as possible!”
After the person on the other side of the call was done talking, he hung up right away.
When Eric heard that Nicole needed an operation, he wondered if she was injured that badly. At that moment, he was in a difficult spot. After thinking about it for a while, he figured Abigail would be fine. After all, a highly skilled surgeon was operating on her.
Eric also figured the operation wouldn’t end in half an hour, so he decided to go to the opposite hospital to take a look first. With that thought in mind, he got up and left in a hurry.
Abigail’s operation had a little hiccup. She was allergic to one of the medications, but it wasn’t stated in her records. Since she probably never came in contact with it before, she most likely didn’t even know she was allergic as well.
Due to the reaction she had, she was losing a lot of blood, and the operation was in a mess. The doctors had to perform some emergency measures and change the flow of the operation. To do that, they needed her family members to sign the papers for it.
When the nurse came out of the operating room with the papers in hand, she couldn’t find Eric anywhere.
“Where’s the patient’s family?” she asked one of the bodyguards standing by.
“He had to leave for some emergency. What’s wrong?” asked the bodyguard.
“How could he leave just like that? There’s a paper that he needs to sign! Get him back here right now!” the nurse said anxiously.
The bodyguard started calling Eric, but he couldn’t get the latter at all. So, he tried again, but it still didn’t work.
The nurse was getting more and more frustrated. “What should we do now? Everyone’s waiting inside…”
“Let me do it.” Suddenly, a voice interrupted the conversation.
She looked at the man in front of her and asked, “Who are you to the patient?”
“I’m her brother–in–law,” Ryan said calmly.
Upon hearing that, she hurriedly passed the papers to him. “In that case, sign these now!”
He signed his name so fast that the bodyguards couldn’t even stop him.
“Did you say you’re Mrs. Gomez’s brother–in–law? That would make you Mr. Gomez’s brother, right? But Mr. Gomez doesn’t have a brother!” The bodyguard grabbed Ryan and asked vigilantly, “Who in the world are you?”
