Chapter 9
Abigail had come to find Naomi, but she never expected to witness such a scene.
By a strange twist of fate, the waitress who had been bullied was none other than the mother of the cornea donor she was looking for
She really should have brought Eric bere to see what his so–called kind, gentle, saintly junior was really like at heart.
Naomi staggered from the shove and fell to the floor. Nicole, however, didn’t even glance at her, stepping over her like a proud peacock on her high heels.
Humiliated and trembling, Naomi could only clench her fists and suppress her tears.
Just as Abigail was about to comfort her and strike up a conversation, a sudden sharp pain shot through her eyes, blurring her vision. She almost collapsed but fortunately managed to grab hold of the wall beside her.
By the time she recovered, Naomi was no longer in sight. The corridor led to the garden, so Abigail guessed she must have gone to find a quiet spot to
Incover.
Enduring the stinging pain in her eyes, she hurried to the garden. It was relatively empry, with only a few guests idly charting while holding drinks. After searching around, she still couldn’t find Naomi. Just as she was about to head toward the greenhouse, another wave of pain hit her, and her vision went completely dark again.
Panicked, she grabbed a nearby light pole to steady herself, waiting for the episode to pass.
Suddenly, a powerful force pushed from behind, sending Abigail stumbling forward. Before she could stop herself from falling into the pool, a strong perfumescent reached her nose
It was the same scent she had just smelled a mo
moment ago
It was Reese
The cold water rushed over her head, and Abigail failed in panic.
“Help.. help… Tcan’t swim…”
Her eyes burned in the darkness, and the more she struggled to grab something, the deeper she sank into the water.
Despair seemed to swallow her whole.
Was she really going to die here today?
Just as she thought all hope was lost, she heard the sound of splashing water.
Someone had jumped into the pool!
A strong arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her to the surface. Rolled rushed through her as she gasped for air. But in her haste, she began coughing violently
As the darkness before her receded, Abigail turned to see who had saved her, only to be met by a familiar, handsome face.
Eric!
No, it wasn’t him.
The face before her resembled Eric’s, but his eyebrows and eyes were colder, exuding an aggressive sharpness. The face before her was more composed
and restrained, with a gentler gize.
Abigail realized she must be going crazy. She was on the verge of divorce, yet she saw Eric in everyone.
“Are you alright? ?” the man asked, his voice was calm and filled with deep concern.
She managed a grateful smile. “I’m fine. Thank you for saving me,”
“I’ll take you up,” he said, supporting her waist with one arm while swimming her toward the shore. After pulling her out of the water, he climbed up himself
Abigail’s wet gown clung to her body, accentuating her graceful figure. The worst part was that her dress was white and once wet, it became almost
entirely transparent.
Many people in the garden were now staring, and several men cast lecherous, suggestive looks at her. Embarrassed, she crossed her arms, shying away. unsure what to do,
A jacket, warm from the man’s body, draped over her shoulders, shielding her from prying eyes. She locked up at him with gratitude and politely thanked him again.
“Thank you. I’ll clean the jacket and return it to you,” she said.
The man’s gaze lingered on her for a moment before he spoke. “Don’t you remember mo?“!
“Sorry, you are..” Abigail stared at his face, carefully studying him. Gradually, recognition flickered in her eyes, and she exclaimed, “Ryan Gomez? What are you doing here?”
Ryan was her classmate from college. Despite coming from a poor background, he was exceptionally talented and had been bullied during their studies.
He had even had the opportunity to study abroad and been granted a scholarship, yet they were snatched away. However, Abigail had helped him reclaim them.
After graduation, he stared his own business, which she secretly arranged for Connor to invest in.
Back then, she was still the proud heiress of the Reed family, but now…
Looking at his dignified and graceful demeanor and the impeccably tailored custom–made suit, it was clear he had succeeded in his ventures and achieved greatness.
“I was invited here, but I didn’t expect to run into you,” Ryan said, his gaze fixed on her.
He silently marveled, grateful he had come, as he never knew when he would have another chance to see her.
After Abigail helped him, they had always been on good terms. However, as the Reed family fell apart, she married Eric and became focused on her role as a housewife. Their contact had gradually faded.
Seeing him again now, she was surprised and asked about his life,
As expected, he had succeeded in business and was now the president of a listed company. Though not as powerful as top–tier aristocratic families, he still held a significant position in high society.
After recounting his experiences over the years, Ryan looked at her. “What about you? How have you been?”
Abigail fell silent for a moment before smiling and nodding. “Not bad”
Life as Eric’s wife, with everything handed to her and no worries about debt or instability, could indeed be considered good.
A fleeting emotion crossed Ryan’s eyes, one Abigail couldn’t quite read, but it vanished quickly, replaced by a soft smile.
“Since we’ve run into each other, let me take you our for a meal. I remember you’re a bit picky with food, and the banquet offerings might not suit your taste. You probably haven’t eaten much, right?”
At his suggestion, Abigail realized she was indeed a bit hungry. However, she still had to find Naomi to discuss the cornea donation. This matter couldn’t be delayed any longer.
“Maybe next time. I’m not really in a state to eat right now.”
Ryan realized she was in no condition to stay out any longer and nodded understandingly, “How about 1 send you home?”
“Alright.” This time. Abigail didn’t refuse.
She gave him the address of Jacinta’s apartment, and he drove her to the building. Before she stepped out of the car, they exchanged contact information and set a date for the meal.
As she walked toward the entrance, her eyes suddenly started hurting again, and her vision faded. Not wanting him to notice, she pretended to act normal, following her memory as she continued on
Just as she was about to breathe a sigh of relief after entering the building, she accidentally bumped her leg against a trash can in the stairwell,
